'The Number Of the Beast' is #2

on September 24, 2003 @ 15:02

The staff of Metal-Rules.com have collectively decided what are the best and most influential heavy metal albums of all time. Iron Maiden's 'The Number Of the Beast' album got the second spot on their list. According to them, there is absolutely nothing scientific about the ranking, it' is just a collective opinion of a group of true metalheads:

"#2. Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast

It is of no surprise that IRON MAIDEN comes close to the top spot. Culling fans from all areas of the metal spectrum, Iron Maiden, clearly are one of the true innovators in heavy metal. The intro to the track "Number of the Beast" has become one of the "prayers" of heavy metal with just about every fan knowing it word for word."

Iron Maiden's 'Powerslave' and 'Piece of Mind' albuns also appeared on the list respectively in the 6th and 7th spot.

Well... I see this is a real poll made by fans...
Excellent ranking... I would have ranked Piece of Mind better than NotB. but thats not bad. I think Megadeth and Black Sabbath should go upper in the ranking... at least before ACDC...
dont you agree?

I cant see how any of the albums in that list,Maiden included, rated above Paranoid. If it wasnt fro that album and band, metal as we know it may never have come nto existence.NOTB was where it belonged though, at number 2.

In regards to AC/DC,as much as I hate them (this is sacrelige for an Aussie!) that album deservfes a place somewhere in the top 20, perhaps not as high as it got.

As for Master of Puppets pukeface.gif , I remember hearing this album when it fiorst came out and noone had ever heard of them. I remember thinking " I hope I never hear of this band again!", load of shite album that it is. How could anyone possibly think that its the most influential metal album of all time, there is no justice in the world!!

good poll but some very poor choises:

1. NOB should have definatelly been No1. I mean, it's the cornerstone of every metal collection.

2. were is ssoass?!

3. judas priest were really underrated on this poll, so were manowar and venom.

I think it's a quite good list!

Paranoid and No of the Beast should be Top 2, even if none of them is my favourite album. Master of Puppets should be Top 5, but not #1!

I think the reason of not adding SSOASS (even if it's the best album ever recorded) is that it's less famous than NOTB.

Any early Black Sabbath album should be the number one on that list, not Metallica. "The Number" is in the right place, for me. Metallica should be 6th or 7th.

I wont evaluate Metallica from its last albums. I think Master of Puppets is top 3 al least. Piece of Mind too. And Paranoid too. Here are top 3.
Rust in peace must be number 4.
Then And justice for all, number, powerslave....
ACDC is a joke...
Slayer is good, but not in top 10.
ssoass is not in my top 20....

NotB is a great album but i think som eother maiden albums are better, but Number was the first in the era with bruce so it's a good representant from maiden!

What's wrong with AD/CD?

I don't know...

But I know that it's hard to make this kind of lists, coz you cannot only think of your personal favourite albums but of popularity, how many bands and albums it influenced and a lot of other things... wink.gif

Yes, you're right. Its difficult to be objective when talking about music. I would rank my favourite band better than others that are really good but I dont like'em much.
ACDC is a good band, but in my opinion all songs are the same... BTW, most people say this about maiden...

Then you play them Phantom of the Opera, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Futureal, and Journeyman...cause they sure as hell don't sound alike!

Good idea!

If I made the list, it would be something like 5 Maiden albums on Top 5 and then maybe something by Iced Earth or Judas Priest!
