Bruce Dickinson on BBC Radio 2

"DOCUMENTARY

MASTERS OF ROCK
From Wednesday 12th February at 22.00

Right now, the pop charts are something of an anomaly; battling out for chart supremacy, we have in the blue corner, the manufactured teen-bands and TV popstars, squeaky clean (to a fault). Meanwhile, in the red corner are a slew of pierced, tattooed hard-rocking bands. So with rock music riding another wave of success and acclaim, the time is perfect for Radio 2 to introduce a new music to its eclectic output.

In a new six-part documentary Iron Maiden's vocalist (and BBC 6 Music presenter) Bruce Dickinson will introduce you to the world of hard rock. From Cream and Jimi Hendrix, through Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Aerosmith, Kiss, Alice Cooper, to Def Leppard and Iron Maiden, the series will chart the rise and fall and rise again of hard rock.

In the company of fellow rockers Bruce will set the music's history and key movers in context by covering six key years in the evolution of rock music.

Programme One: 1969

Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild is a UK hit, Led Zeppelin release their first two albums, Ian Gillan turns down the chance to star in the movie of Jesus Christ Superstar and instead joins Deep Purple. Cream's Goodbye album is released and Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest & Black Sabbath all take their first tentative steps towards hard rock immortality."
