Iron Maiden Prepares 'Dance Of Death'

Stalwart heavy metal act Iron Maiden will on Sept. 9 release a new studio album via Columbia. "Dance of Death" will be the group's 13th studio set. Singer Bruce Dickinson revealed details of the album last weekend during the band's set at the Download Festival in England's Donnington Park.

Kevin Shirley -- who with bassist Steve Harris co-produced the group's 2000 album, "Brave New World," and last year's concert set "Rock in Rio" -- has been drafted to work on the new album. The 11-track set was recorded in West London prior to the band's current European tour, and will include a stereo mix and a 5.1 Surround Sound mix.

"The band are so in sync with each other, it's incredible," Shirley says on the band's official Web site. "There is very little friction in the studio, and the sessions couldn't have been any more fun and productive. Whatever period in Maiden's history is your favorite, I doubt whether they've all played as together as this before."

"I think 'Brave New World' was only a stepping stone to what we have managed to achieve on this record," Dickinson adds. "Recording this album was almost like being back when [1982's] 'Number of the Beast' was recorded in that the speed and the energy that went into the writing and recording was phenomenal. Everything has come together on this album and I think everyone that hears this record will be moved in different ways... This album will open a lot of eyes and ears to the world of Iron Maiden."

"Brave New World" debuted at No. 39 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 258,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As previously reported, Maiden will release all of its music videos on the two-disc DVD "Visions of the Beast" July 15 through Sanctuary Records Group/Columbia.

The band will kick off a North American tour July 21 in Worcester, Mass. The trek, which will also feature Dio and Motorhead, will be on the road through the end of August.
