The SFGate Adds to the Hall of Fame Rumour Mill

on July 30, 2004 @ 06:05

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee is discussing the potential nominees for 2005 induction. Apart from sure-shot U2, some of the artists eligible for the first time include IRON MAIDEN, DEF LEPPARD, BRYAN ADAMS, PAT BENATAR and SIMPLE MINDS. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

N.B.: this still ony qualifies as rumor as the article from the SFGate only states that Maiden are eligible this year ...like any band which turns 25 years of age this year. [edited by The Saint]

Well, I'm not sure it really qualifies. Let me explain:

we've had many rumors about Maiden being inducted, but nominations will only be announced in november (like every year) and for the moment, the sfgate only says that Maiden are eligible, like any band that turns 25 years of age (!)...

It isn't solid enough for the moment, unless some insider info comes to light.

Cheers

This comment may be stupid, but Maiden won't turn next year to 25 years of age, but almost 30 years of age.
As agdavipain said, those who their FIRST RECORD turned 25 years of age will be eligible.
Anyway, Maiden exist enough time to win any award cool.gif

Thanks

Hardradio doesn't mention Maiden:

Both BLACK SABBATH and VAN HALEN have been overlooked by the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME since they've become eligible. The Sab story is quite pathetic as the metal legends have been overlooked for ten years straight. 2005 contenders include U2, GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE, RANDY NEWMAN, THE PRETENDERS, THE O'JAYS, J. GEILS BAND, BUDDY GUY, CONWAY TWITTY, PERCY SLEDGE and WANDA JACKSON as well as previous nominees THE SEX PISTOLS, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, PATTI SMITH and THE STOOGES. Artists are eligible for induction into the Rock Hall's ranks 25 years after the release of their first record. In December, the Rock Hall will announce who among the new nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Cheers
