New Tracks for Updated Version of Edward the Great

on June 22, 2005 @ 16:15

While confirming that the July 12 'Essential Iron Maiden' greatest hits will be an US only release, Iron Maiden.com adds that 'Edward the Great', the previous hits albums that saw the light in 2002, is being upgraded to fit with the latest Maiden release, 'Dance of Death':

EMI have updated Edward the Great, which will be merged into the shops as stocks are reordered. This revised version has simply been brought up to date to represent the band by including 'Wildest Dreams' and 'Rainmaker' from 'Dance of Death' plus a new live version of 'Fear Of The Dark' (from the forthcoming Death On The Road double album which EMI release on 29th August) in place of 'The Clairvoyant', 'Infinite Dreams' and 'Holy Smoke.'

Apart from a new catalogue number the artwork remains unchanged.

There's no word if that release has already hit the shelves and if the new tracklisting results in one song less than the 2002 album, since the new live version of 'Fear of the Dark' should replace the old one.

The paragraph reads as if they are replacing 3 songs The Clairvoyant, Infinite Dreams and Holy Smoke with Wildest Dreams, Rainmaker and a new live version of 'Fear Of The Dark but Edward the Great already has a live version of Fear of the Dark surely they won't put 2 live versions of the same song on a Greatest Hits.

It says 'a new live version' which basically means they are updating the other live version with a newer live version of it. But then theres still that 3rd song to replace that they took off. so maybe there will be two versions of it? i dont see them doing that though blink.gif

Removing 'Infinite Dreams'... One has to be ignorant to allow that to happen.

Bah, they could have released the 'Essential' in Europe, that would have been different at least.

Cheers

The math doesn't add up. If the new FotD-live is replacing the older version, then:

Taken away: 3 songs, total time 14:25
Replacing with: 2 songs, total time 7:40
Missing time: 6:45

So they're shortening the CD by almost 7 minutes, but why? "Infinite Dreams" is 6:09, so there's room to leave it on there.

Me confused. sad.gif

How do you know he was planning on buying it? I think Maiden/Maidens management are milking the Maiden cash cow for all its worth while the band are still around what with live albums every year the bi-annual re-release of their biography, countless compilation albums and DVD's coming out their arses. I can see WHY they're doing it I just think its a bit of a shame them taking advantage of the fact that there ARE a lot of people who feel they need to own EVERYTHING by Maiden. Thankfully I do not and I will not be buying this release. Didn't actually buy the last one either though tongue.gif

Has anybody thought about the fact that this has been done by EMI? It's pretty obvious that what Maiden wants to promote is the "Death on the road" package. Moreover, the press release for this updated "Edward the great" doesn't sound hyped, as it usually happens with the stuff Maiden are trying to promote

Its probably worth mentioning here that for the rest of the world EMI have updated Edward the Great, which will be merged into the shops as stocks are reordered.

Yeah it was very subtly hidden in the context of another article so I'm guessing they're not all out to push this re-release. but really whoever comes up with these ideas needs to start giving me some of the money he's making wink.gif If the artwork isnt changing most fans wont NEED this album since they MUST have all the songs anyway on other albums.

indeed, but that's probably the reason it isn't released in europe, where the biggest part of the maidenfans live...

I can't understand that because the next year will see the release of the new album.
So they sould be the same thing with the next album, so they better do it only one time, instead of doing it two times.. blink.gif

This was pretty pointless. Rainmaker and Wildest dreams? They shouldn't be part of a 'greatest hits' album.

#2107, June 25, 2005 @ 16:35

Why does it really matter whats going on yet ANOTHER greatest hits album? They come out pretty regularly; if you dont like this one, make sure to catch the next tongue.gif
