Number Of The Beast Second Best Album of All Time

on February 16, 2005 @ 14:01

Black Sabbath have topped a list of the 100 best British rock albums of all time.

The band, which brought us Ozzy Osbourne, made the number one spot with their self-titled debut released in 1970.

Follow-up album Paranoid was fifth in the poll voted by readers of Kerrang! magazine.

Osbourne appears in the list six times - more than any other artist.

The Birmingham-born rocker features four times with Black Sabbath and twice as a solo artist.

His album Blizzard of Ozz is at number 16 and Diary of a Madman is at 33.

Osbourne said Black Sabbath making the number one spot was a triumph for British rock.

"Back then you'd hear, 'If you go to San Francisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair'. And we were like, 'What the f*** are they on about?'

"We lived in Aston, Birmingham, in drizzly rain. The only flowers I ever saw were on a gravestone in our local cemetery," he said.

The top 100 features a mix of heavy metal, punk and glam rock.

Iron Maiden came second with Number of the Beast, followed by Nevermind The Bollocks by the Sex Pistols and Led Zeppelin's IV.

This is one of the few top album lists I tend to agree with. A lot of my favourites are there (even though there are some glaring omissions and some bad choices). Good to finally see someone accepting Queen in the same rank as Maiden and Sabbath!

Iron Maiden is great !! It's an excellent news... but it's weird that the first 3 cds and BNW are in the list ! Where is Piece Of Mind and 7th Son ?

Anyway, for Muse, try to get the Origin Of Sym. and Absolution cds, and you'll find out why they deserve to have the 6th and 20th place. They are absolutely great...not like Maiden, but good. smile.gif

Iron Maiden 4 'eva

I think Piece of Mind should of been included. It's better than alot of those albums that were ranked.
