Kevin Shirley Ready to Start Working on New Album

on February 24, 2006 @ 18:20

According to famous rock photographer, Ross Halfin:

"Kevin Shirley is in London ready to start working on the new Iron Maiden record. He's told me all the songs will be at least forty-five minutes long. Or did he mean forty-five seconds..."

Meanwhile, it seems Kevin Shirley will not repeat his past experiences with his diary and this time write directly for IronMaiden.com, thus trying to avoid Maidenfans.com finding hidden treasures on his website. The hunt is on.

Do you think he meant to say "all the songs will be four to five minutes long?" I hope not. I think that would be an move toward commercial viability, and besides, I like the long songs.

I cant stand the long songs. The best songs maiden have done in the last few years are the short ones. Having an album of 8-9 miniute epics is tiring and its sucks live. The odd one is great like Mariner in amongst the rest of Powerslave but BNW and to a lesser extent Dance of Death are tiring and boring

I'd also welcome a new Maiden album with mainly 4-5 minute songs. Bring back some of the old dynamism! BNW and DOD are good but one epic after another just gets boring and few of the 'modern' long tracks are as inspired as Rime or 7th Son. However, I imagine the new album will be heavy with lengthy and prog-influenced Harris compositions.
