Rod Smallwood Interview in Metal Hammer GR #254

on February 5, 2006 @ 13:19

There are those who claim that Iron Maiden are still active only for the money. What would you answer to an accusation as such?

Rod: Firstly, I'd tell them to go fuck themselves! Whoever claims such a thing obviously doesn't know the first thing about Iron Maiden, never went into the trouble of finding out and, nevertheless, jumps to conclusions with ease.

[my comment: Up The Irons!]

What are the immidiate plans of the band?

Rod: A this time [the interview was held in mid January], Iron Maiden are in the procedure of recording their new studio album, which will come out in mid 2006 and, ofcourse, a tour will follow, as usual.

What would you advise someone who wants to become a manager?

Rod: Be a bachelor, be patient and be able to handle the booze! (laughs)

How do you perceive the situation in the music bussiness today?

Rod: It's shit. Things have changed very much and for the worse, everything is corporate. I think that nowadays everybody focuses on the tree and misses the forest. Ofcourse, the whole world has changed a great deal in relation to how it was in the 80's, so in that context the music bussiness changed as well. Look at football for example: Champions League was an innovation which brought on great changes in european football. Back then everything was more Rock 'n' Roll: different clubs, different people in the bussiness, different attitude. Once, those who worked at a concert facility wore leather while now they wear some nylon things, once you went in to have fun and now you go in to take your seat, once you drank alcohol and now you're chewing pop corn...
