Bruce Dickinson to Perform on UK's Armed Forces Day

on June 2, 2009 @ 19:32

Henley Standard reports:

"Members of the military are to honoured next month when Lord and Lady McAlpine throw open the doors of their estate.

The Prime Minister has ordered that June 27 should be Armed Forces Day and has asked every county to host an event that is free to service personnel, veterans and cadets.

The Buckinghamshire event is to be held at Fawley Hill, on the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border, and Lady McAlpine is working with the Lord Lieutenant's office to put together a thrilling day for about 3,500 people.

On show will be Lord McAlpine's own steam train and an armoured train from the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.

There will be fairground rides and sideshows, vintage cars and military vehicles, craft and cookery demonstrations, displays by local food and drink producers and an air display featuring Spitfires, Hurricanes, Tiger Moths and the Red Blades, former members of the Red Arrows.

Military and civilian bands will play and it is hoped that Andrew Jarvis and Katherine Jenkins, who sang together at the Remembrance Day service at the Albert Hall, will perform.

A line-up of local stars will play as a rock band, including Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, Nick Fyffe of Jamiroquai, Mickey Moody, formerly of Whitesnake, Joe Brown and his daughter Sam and Steve Balsamo, who starred in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Lady McAlpine said that with little time and minimum resources, she was seeking help from volunteers. She said: "We need a lot of things that are inexpensive in themselves but the costs mount up so all offers of help will be gratefully received, even if it is just making some cakes or manning a stall for 45 minutes."

A limited number of tickets are available to the public in return for a donation of at least £20 per head. Send a cheque, made payable to Buckinghamshire County Council, to: Joe Bradshaw, executive assistant to the chairman, Buckinghamshire County Council, Aylesbury, HP20 1UA. Money raised will go to forces' charities.

Email Lady McAlpine at ladyj@sirwmcalpine.com or call her on (01491) 637869. "
