Maiden goes acoustic
The last diary:Hola! Happy New Year - well, Chinese New Year. Today begins the year of the sheep. Baaa!!! * Managed to complete a busy and succesful week locked down in the studio with Iron Maiden, but was unable to get to the diary in time! Rest In Peace, January 2003. You may be gone, but you're not forgotten! Updates to follow. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the band rehearsing a relatively new song early last week. Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Janick Gers and Adrian Smith. Which one is your Valentine's Day choice, ladies? Tell it to the Iron Maiden bulletin board, I'm not interested! * Of course, anyone needing a Caveman in the sack ... well, that's an entirely different story then! Consider this Cupid's Corner! * Anyhoo, we cut the track being rehearsed above, and it came out great - and someone suggested putting an acoustic guitar on it, so I said, "... well, let's cut an acoustic version as well." So we had to hire in some acoustic guitars (that's pretty sad!) and we cut an alternate version. Three acoustic guitars, acoustic bass and Nicko playing his drums, not with regular sticks but with "bundles", and the track came out great. Even Bruce got sensitive in his vocal booth, delivering a peach of a performance. I'm not sure where this will surface, as I feel pretty certain the electric version will make the record, but... hey, it will keep everyone guessing, I suppose! * Today is my friends', the Birds, big birthday - Hazel is 50 and Marcus is 21, so they're sharing a birthday and have hired a big boat to take us and about a hundred others up and down the Thames all night, feeding us like royalty and keeping us plied with fine drink. Might have to lie in tomorrow - the boat sails from 7pm to 1am without landing, so I better keep it together somewhat! And that's all .... bon weekend! The Brew's update follows:
Caveman
Wed 29th Jan. The log.
Whitney Houston we have a problem. We appear to have slipped through a tear in the space/time continuum where Iron Maiden are an acoustic outfit. This strange new world is not unlike the one we know but its musicians play with instruments that require no form of power and it's inhabitants appear to exist only on a diet of Juicy Fruit chewing gum. Although impressed by this parallel universe there appears to be no alcohol or female life-forms. Let's get the rock out of here - To infinity and beyond! The Brew.
