yeah, it's a good cover, but I get bored by this Eddie mask
it started with Rock In Rio
Rock In Rio DVD
Run To The Hills Single
Edward The Great
Dance Of Death
and now Rainmaker
all have this Eddie mask - It's a great looking mask (would love to buy it somewhere ) but - call me nostalgic - I miss those great Eddie drawings!!
well, you can't always have what you want...
yes thats true..i want to see eddies like powerslave and seventh son.. again, but that will never happen,,but i hope it will.

miss the old ones to...but maiden has reached a new era in eddies and you'll have to accept it. I actually like this one pretty much. A lot better than WD and DoD!!!
but i think the could have done two different for the single and DVD-single...
I just can't understand Maiden anymore. Crap album cover, crap singles covers, crap b-sides, crap setlist... Dear God

Me likes
The ironic thing about those new Eddies is that the better Eddie pics are used as besides.
Anyone have more tea vicar??
More Tea Vicar
Maiden are struggling to get any decent artwork since Derek refused to work for them anymore

'DANCE OF DEATH' AND 'NO PRAYER' ARE THE WORST EVER SLEEVES!!!!
'RAINMAKER' MAY NOT BE THE BEST BUT AT LEAST IT IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT!
WOOOOARRRRGH! ED'S GOT LONG HAIR AGAIN!
NOT MUCH DETAIL SINCE RIGGS BUGGERED OFF BUT NOT BAD!
THERE IS A BIT OF REAL LIFE 'KILLERS' IN THERE.
NOW ALL WE NEED IS FOR ED TO SHAVE IT OFF FOR THE NEXT SINGLE AND SHOW US THAT LOVELY SHINY BONCE AGAIN.
Can you take caps lock off before posting on the forum please? Thankyou
I didn't like the artwork at all! I'm very sick of this puppet eddie! It seems as good as 3d people of DoD cover! Bring back painted covers or replace it with something better!!!!!
The idea is no good too! Eddie smiling in front of rain! how nice and original!!!! in derek works, there were always an original idea. Flight Of Icarus, PoM, Powerslave, SiT, NoTB or 7th Son related all artwork... They are all visually stunning and had a clever idea inside.
They totally screwed with DoD related artwork except photographs inside the sleeve.
I think we must understand Maiden and get used to this band, that is not the same as the one who did Powerslave o Piece of Mind.... They have changed someway, and they're a little more commercial than before.
Last maiden covers were not the ones that we, the fans who buy the album, like.
BTW, I appreciate this last cover, the Rainmaker single... is good.
so are they trying to get rid of old fans? by making covers which won't ever please them, by playing the setlist they hears tens of times (while others didn't heard Trooper live once (oooh God, someone tells to newbies to go and buy any official live albums! not even bootlegs!)
i really dont think they'v gone more comercial. i think they'v all matured, especially adrian - i mean look at his recent songwriting hits on the new album.
who cares about the cover, its the music that matters. i sort of hope Riggs came back but wishful thinking i think.
DoD cover is shit - who cares? DoD album rocks! you see.. whats the cover got to do with anything.
nice work with rainmaker btw!
< Nicko on the video lol
I agree they matured. But I like all of piece of mind, powerslave, etc... I like the cover, songs, lyrics and how they rocked live.
I like DoD. I see they matured and still trying to rock and do new things... But I cant explain the reason of the cover....
For you, does it have a reason or isnt that much?
Visuality means something to me. And everyone is affected by it consciously or unconsciously. It is a scientific fact.
Yes, it's the music that counts, but the cover is its visual reflection. Same way, concerts, pyros, intro music to concerts, t-shirts, eddie mascot itself... these are all complementory to the music Iron Maiden creates. If it wasn't THAT important, they would sell the album without sleeve. Or make the songs available dowloadeble in very high quality formats, like wav or some other form, and make albums totally virtual.
When I hear something from Piece Of Mind, I recall a yellowish tone with black. When it comes to 7th songs, I remember a pale blue/white with some red. Guess why? Because you make relations betwen audio message and visual message. And they enhance the experience you get.
I do agree with you, eddiesson. I think of an album as a hole... But I admit that the most important part is the music.
If anyone of us can do something to bring Riggs back to maiden...
I think that the cover looks so good but we need to see again the covers from Derek Riggs, Up the irons in Venezuela
If we see Derek ones again, we wont like the actual ones...

Now I finally know where that Eddie from your avatar is from...
...it's the same as on the 'Best of the Beast' album!(Somewhere in Time-Eddie with another background)
Interesting topic. I like this particular cover better...MUCH better...than I like the Dance of Death cover. But the Wildest Dreams single with the CG Eddie wasn't so bad. At least it was GOOD CG, not crappy CG from Ed Hunter or that crazy bullshit on the DoD cover.
The setlist? Are you INSANE Shaman? The set list is good! Sure, there are some classics I'll miss. I'd love to hear Aces High live, but I have LAD and a few bootlegs from Ed Huntour. Lord of the Flies was a good song when Blaze sang it - I look forward to hearing Bruce's voice on it.
Derek Riggs is gone, let's face it. It hurts, but the show'll go on. I may not like the DoD cover (and I don't) but Maiden has had worse single covers. Right now they're looking for something to replace Riggs's masterpieces, and it will take them a while to find an artist or a style to fill his shoes. Can it really be anything else? Look at the covers they've come out with since Riggsy left:
Rock in Rio: A live pic and a picture you can't really tell much about.
Edward the Great: Not a bad pic, different style of Eddie.
Dance of Death: We've all heard lots about this one.
Wildest Dreams: Good CG, compared to the crappy CG we've seen in the past.
Rainmaker: A mask of a decent looking Eddie over a background. Not the most original. But at least his neck looks like it'd be on straight!
Oh, with the DoD cover. I find if I cross my eyes while looking at it and drift out of focus it looks okay
Well LooseCannon speak the truth actually.
My opinions of the latest non-Riggs works:
Rock in Rio: Live pic with a great computer made Eddie in the sky.
Edward the Great: Well, great! Good animation and concept.
BBC Archive: Looks nice. A standard Eddie.
Best of the B'sides: Silly but at least well made.
Visions of the Beast: Unusual, but not bad.
Wildest Dreams: Not that good, but not that bad.
Dance of Death - The Reaper rocks, the cgi sucks.
Rainmaker - Eddie's finally back! I love it!

I like the RiR, Edward the Great, Eddie's Archive, and the Rainmaker covers but the other ones, i hate all of them
specially the Visions of the Beast and the DoD...(BTW: the reaper rocks )
Unfortunately you forget a great non-Derek Riggs cover:
Fear Of The Dark!
As a student of Visual Communication, I find this one much successful than anything they did after Seventh Son, and some prior covers.
I think it has the most different usage of Eddie. He seems to blend with environment (like Powerslave) and although this may seem to lessen his effect and put him at the background, in fact it puts him everywhere, and give him more supernatural look. Super natural, but not heroic look like SiT.
It had an interesting idea and an interesting application of the idea.
By the way, I dislike dark covers, as they are too unimaginative and too usual and for metal bands. There are exceptions, and FoTD is one (with Running Free)
Live After Death Drawing is the best of all !!! (IMO)
