B L A Z E Guitarist Discusses New Album

on January 11, 2004 @ 10:26

BLAZE guitarist Steve Wray has posted the following message to the band's official discussion forum:

" [BLAZE's forthcoming third album] 'Blood & Belief' is a 10-track album which at this point certainly seems to have a theme or feel if you like. It's not a concept album. If anything this album is all about honesty and determination although there are some religious references as well.

"We are uncertain at the mo as to the format of the CD, as I understand it there probably will not be a limited edition and [our manager] is speaking with the record company at the moment about multimedia/extras.

"There is no release date as yet confirmed.

"Blaze [Bayley]'s vocal style on this record is similar to our previous albums but if anything it's a little more open and real. To my ears more personal than before.

"Tour plans are yet to be confirmed but I'm sure there'll be lots of dates!

"There are as yet no tracks that run into each other in the style of truth/meant. We are shortly to commence arguing about the running order so that could change!"

"There are no left over songs this time, there are a couple of ideas that we were jamming that didn't make it into complete songs but they haven't been recorded. I think we're a bit like Metallica in the sense that we write the number of songs we need.(they did this up untill Load then everything went tits!)"

"Oh yes! Plenty [of heated debates]. What you have to remember is that we are all really passionate about what we do and when there is an atmosphere it's for the best possible reason,we want the thing to be good! It is tough sometimes when you "know" you're right about something and someone else "thinks" you're wrong or vice versa... I've said to everyone from management to band members I'd rather be in a band that argues and gets great results than one where everyone takes the easy way out and agrees to keep the peace and then the music suffers."

"There are no additional musicians on this one, we toyed with the possibility of an operatic part on one song but decided it was overkill. (...not the band)"

"All our albums to date have had a certain amount of triggered samples mixed in with the natural miked drum sound. Actually I think the "natural sound to sample ratio" on this one might be a little higher because it's the first album recorded at Andy's new studio and he was really impressed with the sound in the drum room.
Jason is a great drummer and a genuine pleasure to work with."

As previously reported, "Blood and Belief" is tentatively due in March 2004 through SPV Records. BLAZE utilized the services of former PITCHSHIFTER drummer Jason Bowld during the recording sessions for follow-up to 2002's "Tenth Dimension", which took place at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire with producer Andy Sneap. Also recording with the group was bassist Wayne Banks (SABBAT, MESSIAH'S KISS), who has fulfilled most of last year's touring commitments with the band following the departure of Rob Naylor last April
