Kevin Shirley's Praise for Iron Maiden
Read the following September 19th entry of Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley (Maiden's producer, in case you don't remember)'s diary:I am totally blown away by the fact that every member of Iron Maiden (well, apart from Jann, who will!) has selfishly and very generously donated to the charity bike ride I'll be undertaking in China. What that lets you know of the band, is that they are loyal and unselfish, and this is reflected in the way they deliver their music. Integrity is the key - nothing, not even their life-long management, influence their music, and what they deliver is based on care for the fans and the integrity of the music they deliver, both on record and on stage! Anyone who has seen a Maiden gig, whether they are fans of the music or not, will telll you it is a spectacle second to none. So, I thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart, as I do everyone else who has given so generously for the charity. And to all those of you that I know are probably not as financially stable as you'd like to be, thanks for giving! It's really blowing me away. * On top of it all, I think it's going to be a really fun ride. I only know one person, Rod Smallwood, who's going on the ride (and he's accusing me of stealing his donors!! Ha!), as it's MENCAP, a charity based in England - and I am look forward to meeting a whole bunch of new friends on this exotic journey. So, THANKS! Once again, the picture of 'Arry is nicked from Ross' website - who I didn't see amongst the donors, did you? : ) OK, off to hit the pavement and get some miles under my ample seat - the winter is coming and the temperature now is just 50'F, definitely getting chilly! About as welcome as an uninvited visit from the mother-in-law (not that I have one!). Gotta go chase some sun. See ya,
KevTheCave
Here's what the Maiden camp donated:
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) - £100.00 "if your arse gets sore!!"

Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) - $200.00 "Long Live Maiden, The Caveman Rules! Teehee"
Nathalie and Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) - $250.00
So, now, Iron Maiden fans, if you can, please make a donation by going here ! It will surely please Kev, but even more the kids with learning disabilities to whom the money will be given !!

is it only me, or is 100$ not that much for bands who earn millions ?! ofcourse you can't donate to every charity, but this one was maiden related so..
Some gave dollars, some gave british pounds...
1.00 GBP = 1.78342 USD
Cheers
Even so, I'm siding with Manhunter on this one. i understand that Maiden aren't obligated to give money to absolutely every charity, but their earnings, in my gueses, allow them to give more than 100 quid or 200$...
Manhunter, Ace ... put your money where your mouth is before knocking others for their contributions!
I just gave $20, so I'm allowed to say that.
Well, 200$ is the average monthly wage around here. So, if would have the posibilities, i would
At least the Maiden members are donating a respectable amount of money. And it's not the first time they have contributed to several charities, it's just that this time we get to know the amount of money given.
Here's what Ross Halfin has to say (on his diary):
Heard a rumour that Kevin Shirley is following up his bike ride with a camel ride across the Sahara with Robert Plant. They will be recording the camels for a 5.1 dvd and live album...
Cheers
Here's the rest of Ross' diary. He's harsh on Kev, I must say. But Ross is known to be frank on every issue, something I found very respectable...
Notice Kevin Shirley's on a self-promotion crusade, disguising
it as charity. He's had a good dig at me on his September diary (www.cavemanproductions.com) that I've not contributed to his charity bike ride. Very strange that all his charitable contributors all seem to stem from The Sanctuary Group of Companies....Can't be anything to do with the fact that he's doing the bike ride with his best mate Rod Smallwood and he's hoping to produce the new Iron Maiden cd in January, who, GASP, are on Sanctuary....Wonder if his other best friend, Merck, Sanctuary CEO, is going with him.
My view on charity is that if you're doing it, do it quietly, don't use it for self-promotion. Hope he has many flat-tyres on the way!
I notice that he says that Iron Maiden have "selfishly donated to the charity bike ride" - is he sure?
Went over to see my mate Phil Lemon who was a real bike rider....
Cheers
And now, Kevin's reply on his own diary...
I guess it's official - Ross Halfin must be bored, as he has been reading my diary and must have nothing better to do. Guess he's trolled through all the Japanese porn sites today, gay and straight, and taken in one-too-many Korean snuff movies to lower himself to bother to read it AND then comment on it on his own ill-humored diary blog! (Actually, I love his site and won't stoop to knocking the tiny, ill-mannered, entirely unfunny oompah-loompah of a man!). See his fine work at Starfuckers Incorporated on the web! As one of you said in your e-mail, "...his writing is adequate as is his photography!" Spent the weekend rekindling the flame with the Blinkles up at a great inn near the hippy enclave of Woodstock, NY, and it was great fun. Heading out to L.A. this weekend, to attend a charity thing where Elton John is performing in Ozzy's backyard, so that should be interesting, and we're just formulating what to do with the rest of the weekend - perhaps Joshua Tree, or Big Sur or maybe even Mexico? Keeping the bike seat warm for my "self promotional charity ride" as the Royal Halfin, would say ... and I'm sure there will be a little saddle soreness, although the only cream associated with Halfin's butt is applied for an entirely different, and slightly more selfish personal endeavor! EEeugh! Enough of this diatribe today.
Goodbye!!
Cheers
Woohoo, it seems that they are not friends anymore!

Well, it's sad, for they share a similarity: they are quite frank about the silliness of the music business...

Ross Halfin is known as a little angry man in the music business. At his website you can find some words about him written by Kevin Shirley: http://www.rosshalfin.co.uk/ross/ross-random-thoughts.html
Cyrus of the official BB says this:
it seems as though the situation isn't as bad as we think. At least not from Ross' point of view. I asked him about the incident, and he told me that "I still like kevin but he can be very pompus"

Last Kevin comment:
OK, I'm gonna be away til Monday - and I better stop this, and the ensuing e-mail spin-off - Ross Halfin and I have buried the hatchet and will be lovers soon (in Spring 2096!). And he does take some fine photos every now and again, in my never-humble opinion, but I still don't think he is very funny!
Well, they might have buried the hatchett, but they surely just seem to just want to save appearances... Sad.
Cheers
Buried the hatchet ?
About a celebrity charity that he attended, Kevin says:
So Ross, you may yell "pretentious prat" all you want - but there are some people who might find this interesting!
And, immediatly, Ross answers:
Kevin Shirley, I notice, is hanging with the stars... I'M SURE he must've gotten millions from his very good friends, George Lucas, Robin Williams, Elton and even ugly bird (the woman of his dreams). Hope LB is watching this for him (sorry a bit of an in joke).
Kids, I tell you, they are kids !
Cheers
