Maiden Will Be Touring in Summer 2005, Says Harris

on January 31, 2004 @ 14:02

As previously announced Eddie Trunk ran last night a live interview of Steve Harris, 20 minutes before the L.A. show.
When asked about the extent of the touring, the bassist said that Maiden would be touring during the summer 2005, but it wasn't decided yet on how long the tour would be.

Apart from this, Harris explained that the band was very annoyed by the cancellation of the last Hammerstein Maiden gig, for those from NY and especially for those who did travel from other countries.
He explained that Maiden had a signed contract and only 10 days before the show did they start to learn that there was some issue that needed to be fixed.
They were pushing to play and for them the still-advertised show was going ahead until the last day. For them, the problem was being "sorted out".

He also said that the gig would have been sold out by the night, so it really wasn't about ticket sales.

It's the first time in Maiden history that such an event happened. "Not even in the pub days" did this happen, said Harris.

He explained that the ticket holders will have priority next time Maiden comes around and that people needed to check IronMaiden.com.

Even if it was "not our fault", he restated that they were really annoyed and insisted on apologizing to all, especially those travelling from far away.

Asked about the beer incident, Steve Harris also felt annoyed for those having missed the encores of the show when the soundboard was rendered unusable. Eddie Trunk reminded him that this already happened at the Palladium in NY during the Beast on Tour when some firecracker went to destroy the soundboard.
Hopefully the beer incident happened late after a "great show", said Harris.

He then went on explaining again that the future touring will be shorter. But he mentionned that it could actually mean more touring, since breaks in-between tours would be shorter too.

He also said that it is a challenge to defend every new album. A challenge both for the band and the audience. He knows that hardcore fan ("they know who they are") would buy everything and that it is the others who would be more challenged. But the band has "to keep things fresh".

This is not a word-by-word transcript and I apologize in advance for any mistakes. An MP3 of interview will be featured on Eddie Trunk after its syndication on other radio channels

I'd like to hope that they might be back in the US again later this year, because I'm dying to see the DoD stuff played live (esp. Paschendale). But I know they like to play the big European festivals in the summer, so I'm not holding my breath.

This is also in accordance to Dave mentioning a new album in 2005.
