Motherwell FC Boss: My Team Reminds Me Of Maiden

on October 2, 2004 @ 15:55

Neil Cameron of the Daily Record is reporting that Terry Butcher, manager of the Scottish football (soccer) team Motherwell F.C., last night gave his Motherwell players the best compliment they could receive from their manager — they remind him of Iron Maiden.

The Fir Park boss is delighted that after almost three years of hard work, sweat and a few tears the young side in claret and amber are following in the footsteps of the world's biggest and longest-serving heavy metal band.

Butcher is a rock fanatic and in his programme notes last season he wrote that he wanted his players to follow the example of his heroes and pointed out Iron Maiden had been so successful for so long because of consistency, willingness to work hard and learn their craft.

Ahead of tomorrow's clash with Inverness Caley Thistle, Butcher said: "I really admire Iron Maiden and I think we have been very similar recently.

"They are great professionals, work hard and sometimes play hard. They are very level-headed and keep their feet on the ground and always sign autographs for fans after the show.

"They still go out and perform to the highest level and have been doing so longer than most in the music business — apart from perhaps the Rolling Stones.

"Now I want Motherwell to be hitting that level of consistency. While we are not near where we want to be, we are a lot further along that road compared to two years ago." Read more
