Oliver Palotai on B L A Z E

on November 12, 2004 @ 16:04

New B L A Z E guitarist Oliver "Oli" Palotai (also in Doro) has posted the following message to the fans on the Planetblaze Forums:

Hi everybody, dear BLAZE-fans out there,

For the first time in months I had a break from touring and could use my spare time to read through the different sections of the forum. Quite some interesting stuff! Reading some topics, I thought I should add some comments to the interview I did recently - you can find it on the main web site.

First of all I want to greet all the Blaze fans out there. I have been in contact with some of you personally after some gigs and hope I will meet more to discuss God, the world and Heavy Metal. Also I hope you will enjoy the new line up - for the band it was a new experience how fast we started working together as a group musically and personally.

But I am also aware how difficult it will be to convince some of you who knew the former musicians. I remember quite well my feelings when some of my favourite bands split up or members I especially liked quit. It always took some time to get used to it.

You will see how Dani, Luca and Nick fit into the picture and you will make your opinions about them. Great guys, from my point of view, and experienced musicians. In my own case I know that some of you see me "replacing" John Slater. That might be true because I play his former guitar parts, which are by the way the work of a superb and very talented musician. On the other hand my technique, equipment and sound is quite different to his and it didn't make sense to me right from the start trying to copy his art.

Some of you guys - obviously musicians too - complained about the fact that I don't play his solos like he did. It is just my personal opinion, I know, but the solos of another player are something very personal. So I took just the real necessary and song- related notes from most solos and found my own stuff around it. This is the way I always do it. Trying to play a solo
note by note exactly like the original wouldn’t feel right and honest. Hopefully you understand that.

Also I improvised a lot during the first weeks with the band. Out of obvious reasons (see my interview) my time to learn the songs was limited and I hope you forgive some of the more weird notes I played .

So far, so good. I can't wait to get on stage with BLAZE again. I also hope you guys are ready to share your opinion with me about the stuff I wrote.

See you on the road,
Oli
