Maiden Live at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, CA on January 30th, 2004

I’ve seen the reviews already posted on these gigs, but Maiden deserves another.
I’ve been a Maiden fan since I was 11 years old, way back in 1982, and have never went to a live show. I’ve now seen what I’ve been missing and will NEVER miss another.
Universal Amphitheatre is an awesome venue. Just large enough, but not too small. Being in the pit on Friday is the way to see Maiden.
The show started with the rocking tune of “Wildest Dreams.” Then they went on to some older tunes of “Wrathchild,” which Steve Harris had the whole place bouncing, “The Trooper” and “Can I Play With Madness.” Then Bruce Dickinson announced the ‘Dance of Death’ Tour. The “Dance of Death” song followed with Bruce in a Grim Reaper cloak and a mask. Then the songs “Rainmaker” and “Brave New World.” The highlight of the show was the song “Paschendale.” The old castle stage started with flashing lights of bombs and machine gun fire. The song opened with a large backdrop of dead soldiers and Bruce in an old World War II uniform. “Paschendale” is a dramatic and impressive live piece of theatre musicianship I’ve ever seen!
Then the songs “Lord of the Flies” and the powerful “No More Lies.” The classic “Hallowed Be The Name” was an extended version due to a seven-foot fall by Bruce. Slipping, he fell to the right of Nicko McBrain’s drum set and laid a bit injured. Dave Murray and Janick Gers came to see if he was okay while they kept playing. Bruce left the stage and came back out soon to finish the song!
“Fear of the Dark” and “Iron Maiden” followed. During “Iron Maiden,” a huge Grim Reaper Eddie rose up behind Nicko and the nine-foot-plus Eddie came out on the stage to reek havoc. The encore set started with an unbelievable acoustic version of “The Journeyman.” Adrian Smith, Janick, Steve and Dave all sat on stools while Bruce belted some the most amazing vocals. Hence the Bruce nickname "The Air Raid Siren." The encores finished with “The Number Of The Beast” and the classic fan fave “Run To The Hills.”
I went to the second show on Saturday further back from the stage to see the whole show once again. My Brother, and two Brother-In-Laws came with to see their first big show and with the second night also. What a show it was. I can’t forget about a band from San Diego named Cage who kicked major ass on the lawn in front of the venue before the show and Arch Enemy from Sweden who opened on stage for Maiden.
