Chris Jericho Speaks about Tyranny of Souls

on May 2, 2005 @ 17:23

Vocalist of metal band Fozzy and WWE wrestler, Chris Jericho spoke of Bruce's new album and Maiden in a recent radio interview in the US. PWInsider brings us the report:

1. Plays Bruce Dickinson's "Trumpets Of Jericho"

2. Y2J says Dickinson's new record "Tyranny Of Souls" who is a reunion with Roy Z who produced & played on "Chemical Wedding" & "Accident Of Birth". Y2J says people say those two records were exactly what Iron Maiden should've done on the last two records with the reunited lineup with Bruce Dickinson & Adrian Smith on "Dance Of Death" & "Brave New World". Y2J says Steve Harris took control of those records and says "Dance Of Death" wasn't bad but much more improved. Y2J thinks if they utilized Roy Z who produced Dickinson's solo records, we would've heard a little more of a heavier Iron Maiden. Y2J says it would've been more accepted in this day and age, he would love to hear it and says if Steve Harris is listening and he's sure that he is, he says Harris needs to hook up with Roy Z and whip ass like Bruce did on "Chemical Wedding", "Accident Of Birth" & "Tyranny Of Souls".

Y2J says Iron Maiden's on Ozzfest this year, playing nothing but material from the first 4 records and he's looking forward to it. Y2J mentions that great tours are coming up like Judas Priest, Queensryche, Ozzfest and the Gigantour. Y2J mentions that Chris Caffery's new solo record "Faces" is burning up the charts. Y2J says it's great and advises his listeners to pick up a copy. Y2J says Caffery's on tour with Jon Levus Pain. Y2J says both Chris & Jon are bandmates from Savatage.

It could have been nice if BNW and DOD were a little heavier, seeing how much I like Monsteguer, but I think they are just fine the way they are now. It would be nice to hear a little bit more heaviness on the next album.

I think that BNW and DOD were better than TOS for sure and at least equal to AOB and TCW.

Here we go again, eh?

To be honest, I don´t see what lacks in heaviness in the last couple Maiden releases compared to, say albums like SSOASS or SIT. If anything, I think Maiden are heavier again now then they were then.

Second, I hate Roy Z´s "muddy" production that he utilises on Dickinson´s albums. Priest´s album sounded better, cleaner, but I never understood what those muddy guitars had to do on an album with basically traditional metal. This is not Entombed, yknow?

Third, Maiden are original. There isn´t another band on Earth that sounds the tiniest bit like them. Bruce albums, however good, aren´t exactly original. I think Maiden should continue to be unique.

Last, if BNW and DOD had been released back in ´83 & ´84, this bum and all other "let´s hop on the miserable complain about Maiden" bandwagon would had called these albums classics now.

I for one hope Steve continues to be Steve. And if this above mentioned bum thinks Steve really had more control over latter day Maiden releases than their older albums, he is kidding himself.
