Iron Maiden Win Soccer Six Charity Soccer Game

on May 22, 2005 @ 18:44

As annouced earlier, the Maiden boys took part in a charity football (called soccer for our US friends) at West Ham United FC's Upton Park.

The Iron Maiden team won the Radio One Soccer Six 2005 competition against the BBC Radio One team in the final.
Steve and Adrian played, while Nicko was their greatest supporter (supposedly, he can't play for his doctor advised him against it). Lauren Harris, the daughter of Steve, did also play, but not for the same team.

Apparently, the boys did not wear that new Early Days jersey (see other pics in attachement to this post and by scrolling down a bit).

Update:
Here's Grimreiper's eyewitness report which has a lot of information:

It was great to see Maiden play, and win the Soccer Six competition on Sunday.
My wife and son met Steve, Adrian and Nicko, who were all great, especially Nicko who suffered my son asking (and getting) his autograph on 3 separate occasions.

The team was as follows:

Steve Harris
Adrian Smith
Alex Lawler (GK)
Tony Newton
(Dirty Deeds bass player)
Jeff Brazier
Ralph Little (also won the penalty shoot out competition)
Mark Robson
Martin Bell

Macca
George Harris
Johnny Spurling
Nicko (didn’t play)

As I remember the results were as follows:

League
Iron Maiden 4 – 3 Blazin’ Squad
Iron Maiden 6 – 0 Freefaller
Iron Maiden 4 – 0 The Noise Next Door

Quarter Final
Iron Maiden 2 – 1 Razorlight

Semi Final
Iron Maiden 3 – 1 Soccer AM

Final
Iron Maiden 3 – 2 Radio 1

Update (May 28):
Here's Maiden official word on this:
27/05/2005 Steve Harris played in the victorious 11-a–side Ex-West Ham and celebrity X1 that won 9-4 at Upton Park on Friday 20th.

Steve netted in the first half and his son George came on to score in the second! George plays for Maiden Youth team!

Then, on Sunday 22nd Maiden won the Soccer Six tournament organised by Cup promotions by beating a Radio 1 team in the final 3-2!

Steve netted 4 goals on the way to the finals. Adrian played really well too and the team was cheered on by manager Nicko!B ut the star of the team was ex–West Ham player Mark Robson who was fantastic! Mark plays for the Maiden X1 on regular occasions in their league games as does Tony Newton and also Martin Bell of Bell and Spurling fame. Peter Mac And Alex the keeper have also played for Maiden in past games and tournaments.

The two guests players were Ralph Little and Jeff Brazier who also
played fantastic.!

Both games were to raise funds for charity.
Well done to all the team!
Up the Irons!

Edited the whole text to add more information.

If someone could confirm that Bruce and Janick participated, that would be great.

Found pics of Adrian (and Steve) that I will add as attachement.

Cheers
