Leeds & Reading Confirmed

on March 21, 2005 @ 21:27

Iron Maiden are now officially confirmed for Reading and Leeds Festivals as we have been speculating at Maidenfans now for several months.

Maiden will headline Reading on Sunday 28th August and Leeds on Friday 26th August and these will be the only UK appearances of this tour.

Here is the official press release:

21/03/2005Iron Maiden confirmed for Reading & Leeds Festivals

Iron Maiden have confirmed headline appearances at the Reading and Leeds on August 28/26

For over 20 years IRON MAIDEN have been at the forefront of World Metal and one of the World's great live bands, headlining stadiums and major festivals all over the planet, selling over 60 million albums in the process. Renowned for massive Stage Productions and inspired musicianship, their first Reading appearance since headlining in 1982 promises to be a major event. And the band are ready for it. Says singer Bruce Dickinson;

'Following the great reception received by our recent DVD 'The Early Days', which chronicled the Maiden story over the first four albums - Iron Maiden, Killers, Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind - we decided to give the fans a special treat on this Tour by playing materiel almost exclusively from these albums. There will be a lot of songs that fans have been asking us to play for years along with favourites like Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Hallowed be thy Name and The Trooper. In keeping with this we have put together a massive show where the stage sets, production, pyros and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows we toured around those albums. Except bigger - much bigger!! And naturally Eddie will appear as special guest in various appropriate guises!! We are all very excited to be going back to Reading and intend to have a fantastic time and we're sure the fans will too'

These are IRON MAIDEN's ONLY UK FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES, their first ones for over a year and only ones for at least a year after.

The shows tie in with the earlier release of the hugely acclaimed DVD 'The History Of Iron Maiden part 1: The Early Days'.

Visit the Reading Festival and Leeds Festival websites for tickets.

Sky.com has the following report on the news:

Heavy metal veterans Iron Maiden are to headline this year's Reading and Leeds music festivals.

The band, who have promised one of their trademark pyrotechnic stage shows, will play Reading for the first time in 23 years.

Lead singer Bruce Dickinson said: "We're all very excited to be going back to Reading and intend to have a fantastic time. We're sure fans will too."

Pixies and Foo Fighters are the other two headline acts for the Carling Weekend festivals which take place over three days from August 26-28.

Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles are also part of the line-up with an appearance in the NME/Radio 1 tent.

Last year Doherty's former bandmates The Libertines played the festival while he sang to a few hundred fans in a local club in Reading.

A festival spokeswoman said: "Pete may well have his problems but great music and great shows have never been amongst them.

"Who wouldn't bet on Babyshambles turning in the performances of the weekend?"

Other acts in this year's line-up include Kasabian, The Killers, Razorlight, Marilyn Manson, Kings of Leon, The Charlatans and Bloc Party.

The festival will be held at Bramham Park in Leeds and Richfield Avenue in Reading.

I'd love to go to Leeds, but the total cost of a day ticket with the insidious booking fee and postage is £72. Bloody hell.

42 dates (so far, but unlikely that more will be added, maybe one or two).

GMETID had 55 dates, if I'm not mistaken.
DOD Tour had 49 dates.

It's true that these two tours followed each other (1 and a half month in between).... Still, 42 dates is nice. I was expecting less.

Cheers

The ticket prices are discgusting really. One good band playing. I'm going for maiden only, the rest of the bands are crap. Why cant we have a true metal festival over here?

Bloody hell that ticket price goes far beyond anything I've ever seen before! Although when tour shirts go for £20 I can't say I'm surprised.

There's a few metal festivals around in the UK, but none of them are big enough for Maiden. Apart from Reading/Leeds the only one I can see them playing is Download.

Last tour t-shirts were £20-25

Festival in Switzerland costs 55 EUR.

Festival in the UK costs 104 EUR.

Ok, not the exact same size of festival and not the same bill, but still, TWICE the price ?!

(I took Switzerland as an example because it's known for being an expensive country)

Cheers
