Controvercy for Maidens Debut in India
This article comes from Blabbermouth.net:An online petition has been launched to get the Delhi, India-based metal band FTN (F*** THE NAME) removed from the bill of the upcoming IRON MAIDEN concert (flyer) in Bangalore, India on March 17.
According to the petition, "the organizers of the IRON MAIDEN gig in India, DNA Networks, conducted a nationwide college-level battle of the bands called the Campus Rock Idols. The band, FTN, won this competition, and is being made to open for IRON MAIDEN. However, people argue that the quality of the participating [acts] this year was really bad. It is a known fact that professionalism has nothing to do with one's academic status, and that winning a substandard battle of the bands does not prove anything other than relative superiority.
"People supporting the petition argue that FTN is a relatively new band with only two songs, [and] that their setlist is dominated by KORN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE covers, which is inappropriate for an IRON MAIDEN supporting act; and that playing nu-metal COVERS before IRON MAIDEN is blasphemous. They say that there are far more professional bands writing and performing quality original music who should be given this golden opportunity instead of a college-level amateur band."
Check out a video clip of FTN performing the song "Provoke Me" at YouTube.com.
You can view the petition here. While I can't really disagree with the fact a nu-metal band shouldn't be opening for Maiden, it has to be said that many a professional nu-metal band have opened for Maiden in recent years anyway. Plus, giving fans the opportunity to open for their idols as we also reported is the plan in Czech Republic seems like a great idea to me.

Yeah, performing covers of Korn while opening for Maiden does seem a bit dumb. Although I don't really think that the band actually cares who supports them on a certain night. Most of the cases it must be all up to the management and Rod just informs them about this promising band called Yadayada which is opening for them.
Though it must be great for a young band to support Maiden, I do think that Rod should look a little more carefully when choosing the support for any Maiden gig. Far too often the Maiden die-hards are confronted with nu-metal support act that are completely unpalatable to any self respecting fan of real metal.
This obviously cannot be the actual reason why they want to remove them from the bill. Bad support act??? We've been seeing this for quite some time now from Maiden, I don't think they remembered this time. Besides, RATM are cool, so covers from them would be nice...
