Thunderstick recalls early Maiden rehearsals and writing with Samson
Barry “Thunderstick” Purkis recalls his early Maiden days in a May 2005 interview. He describes rehearsing bass and drum parts with Steve Harris before joining the band. The drummer recalls the band's search for a settled line-up and the disciplined rehearsals behind it, before turning to his work with Paul Samson and Chris Aylmer. His account describes Samson building songs through extended jams, with guitar and drums responding to each other over Aylmer's bass.
