I think Metallica are a good band. It all depends on what you use as a benchmark. S&M is one of the best albums i've ever heard. Metallica may not be as good as Maiden in your eyes but other people have different music tastes and may prefer the dulcet tones of Metallica.

I think you have totally reason... You say they were the teachers and this is exactly truth to my opinion.
Why compare Metallica & Iron Maiden? Are they comparable? I think NO, beccause they have'nt the same musical styles:
Iron Maiden is Heavy Metal & Metallica is quite Trash.
My choice? IRON MAIDEN of course.
