Maiden recorded first Nicko McBrain song

on January 22, 2003 @ 12:36

"Tue 21st - Engineers Log!

Late kick-off today so that gave us chance to catch up on on what's happening in the world - it's all bad (nukes hidden in peoples kitchen's etc). But when we finally got goin' the guys were on top form and with two tracks down in a day, that makes it wine o'clock. So the Brew then shares a bottle of the finest red with Boomer, wish we'd had him mic'd up- he knows how to tell a tale! Great day. Keep the e-mails coming as Bruce is answering more than we are at the mo. Cheers.... The Brew a.k.a Iron Brew (thanks Zoe).

A fergin fabulous day yesterday, as Maiden were breaching new frontiers - oh yes, Nicko has had his first song recorded since he's been in the band, so it was a momentous occasion. But wait, I get ahead of myself. The day began with passports and papers and all sorts of the red tape bollocks that has to be done to allow them to bring the circus to your town. Then they played the epic from the Monday session, and out of the box it sounded 100% better, and after I offered my two cents of production advice, we took another 3 takes - each one fabulous - so today we'llgo through them and edit it together. As we don't have Bruce again this week, I suggested we cut another song, and Nicko had one and taught it to the guys - did you know that he's a great bass player, and in the 'Arry style too! So we cut Nicko's song - five takes of it, and it was blistering!!!! A really quick rocker with a great chorus - so cheers, heave one up for Nicko. I didn't stay around to witness the Uncle Remus on Margaux come out, but methinks I may tomorrow. The band are not in today - it's a day to go over everything and consolidate where we are! Rock on..."

Well, on the photos taken in the studio, one had a video camera case on it or something. And, judging by the coverage of the studio on Kevin's site, they might well be filming it smile.gif

They DID record the Brave New World tour rehearsals, so we can probably expect something from the studio to be released.

Besides, there's no b-sides if they're only recording enough tracks for the album, so they might use out-takes (unless they use the Brixton shows, which is likely)
