Pray for forgiveness for listening to inferiors

on November 19, 2003 @ 12:55

Iron Maiden - Rainmaker / EMI Records - November 24 2003
Publication date: 12 November 2003, 17:07:21  |  Author: Kevin Mears

It is said that some things improve with age; wine, ‘Only Fools And Horses’ and Iron Maiden more than back up this centuries-old proverb. Maiden certainly seem to have been around for that long, but show no sign of slowing down if new album “Dance of Death” is anything to go by.

‘Rainmaker’ follows on from earlier single ‘Wildest Dreams’, and whilst the latter did little to break away from the traditional Maiden nucleus, this seizes you throughout its four minutes, pounding away with a hook to die for. Together with the songwriting incorporation of Dickinson’s cinematic lyrics, Dave Murray’s highly acknowledged guitar playing and the genius that is Steve Harris, the track all but guarantees to “wash the tears away” of the Blaze Bayley era. This is as fresh as spring rain itself, literally drenching you with a sound so huge, it begs you to fall to your knees and pray for forgiveness for listening to inferiors. No more usage of the water semantic I swear.

Lasting just under four minutes, “Rainmaker” does not allow time for hesitation. It could be said that this song embodies the band themselves at the present time: definitive, directional and purposeful.

Precisely. Just another person who can't accept change. Blaze rules.

I wouldn't go as far as shoot him, but I totally agree with you on this, Mav !

TXF is a pure masterpiece and one has to be open-minded to at least give it a try without pre-conceptions about what Maiden should be...

Cheers

It was not the Blaze Bayley era which was "tearful", but the era BEFORE Blaze Bayley arrived, after Bruce Dickinson left the band! So, to be precise, Blaze Bayley was the singer who "washed the tears away" of that decline era which was because the band didn't have a singer!

"Don't you think I'm a saviour,
Don't you think I can save you,
Don't you think I can save your life!"

-sings Blaze Bayley in The Angel And The Gambler, however, surely he is the saver of Iron Maiden!!!!!!

Well, from what I've read in Run To The Hills (The Bio), it seems if Bruce kicked around for another album after FotD, Maiden might have split up! And that would have sucked.

Personally, I need to wash these tears away...
I dont criticize Blaze, simply I dont like how he looks, how he sings, how he moves in stage, etc...

Yeah, nothing wrong with Blaze. It's Di'Anno I don't like.

I am sorry to read what you wrote. I understand what you mean. Actually, I think you don't like the fact that Blaze Bayley is a different person than Bruce Dickinson. And that's not because you find anything wrong with Blaze. Instead, it shows that you felt bad when Bruce left the band (like all the fans!), but you think you felt bad because Blaze came in. Well, many people out there feel the same way as you.

Yeah, missing Bruce can be a terrible feeling, but appreciating Blaze can be almost equally good (if not more wink.gif )! Especially now, when we have Bruce back, so all fans can give Blaze another chance by re-listening the two albums he sings on. You can listen to them without a feeling 'What a misery Iron Maiden is without Bruce', and you can say to yourself: 'Hey! I am looking forward to a new experience that may be terribly good! After all it's Iron Maiden music!!!' And you may think: 'Oh, it's a damn good thing that there's a different voice here! It really makes a refreshing change!'

I LOVE MONTSEGUR AND THE CRITIZISE TO THE CHURCH!!!!!
I THINK THAT BLAZE HAS NO VOICE COMPARED TO BRUCE....THE CHORUS ON BLAZE ERA WERE SO POOR.....THAT DIDN´T SEEM TO BE MAIDEN....

I have to disagree!

Blaze has a different voice than Bruce. It does not mean that he has weaker voice. His voice is powerful, especially on the lower tones, so it is perfect for some of the songs with a darker mood!
