Fourth Night In NY Cancelled

on January 27, 2004 @ 11:16

From the Official Iron Maiden Website:

The Iron Maiden show on Tuesday, January 27th at the Hammerstein Ballroom has been cancelled due to an error in the confirmation of the venue between promoter Clear Channel Entertainment and the venue. The band made every conceivable effort to reverse the scheduling error which would have allowed the fourth sold-out show of their four night run to go ahead.

Iron Maiden is clearly extremely disappointed with this situation and greatly regret not being able to perform on Tuesday, especially as the first three nights have been such great shows to such terrific audiences.

Clear Channel Entertainment very much regret the obvious inconvenience this cancellation has caused to Iron Maiden and their fans.

Refunds will be available at point of purchase.

You're fucking kidding!?
They've been there three days and they only managed to confirm it was cancelled TODAY!?
Someone has let the fans down big time with this one!

Something is rotten in Denmark. I would even buy the impending snow storm than this. I also find it very strange that they just found this out when they have been here for over five days. I feel sorry for all the fans with tickets for tonight.which I am one.

Seem to be a bad time in NY this tour... but hopefully the last show was people that already seen one or two show, or maybe three before this night.

Yeah, some may have had but when Maiden only play in two cities there's a lot of people who came from far different parts of the US to see this show, and now it's cancelled. Poor fellas.

On Monday's show Bruce said they were still fighting the venue since they double-booked. They also previously said there was a 50/50 chance of cancellation. However they lost the case. Nothing they could have done about it.
People knew about it in other words.

Maybe but surely something could have been publically announced? Not everyone going to the 4th show would have been at the 1st

More and more important information is coming out now. It's hard to keep up.

I think that if they had announced it, some people wouldn't bother showing up if they were coming from outside NY, fearing the gig would be cancelled. But what if they sorted things out? Then the fans who didn't show up would be angry.
I feel this was a no-win situation for Maiden.

Good point
I think however the venue or the promoters or someone should have made a definate decision long before today

The venue actually tried to squeeze Maiden in on Tuesday, because the other event (a convention for Zerox or something) wasn't schedueled till Wednsday. However in Zerox's contract it stated they had the venue from Tuesday despite not coming till the day after. Anyways...they didn't want Maiden to have the venue on Tuesday, so they took Maiden to court, and the judge ruled in favour of Zerox cussing[1].gif

Rolling Stone tells about the NY Maiden story:

Given the number of Spinal Tap moments that've punctuated their career over the past two decades, you'd think Iron Maiden would be due for a run of good luck. Unfortunately, that sunny spell didn't arrive in time for the dungeons-and-dragons dudes' stint in New York last week. The band was slated to play four shows in the Big Apple, but those plans were sabotaged by a surplus of both drunkenness and office supplies. One of the gigs was cut short when an overzealous fan paid homage to Bruce Dickinson and company by pouring his beer off a balcony onto the venue's mixing board, while the final performance was cancelled altogether after the band arrived at the theater only to find that it had been double-booked -- with the folks at Xerox holding the upper hand in the matter. On the bright side, the Maidens walked away with enough toner to keep even the most discerning huffer happy . . .
