Metallica's Hammet: Maiden Not Relevant Anymore
In a recent article from the Denver Post about Metallica's importance in today's metal, Kirk Hammet, Metallica's guitarist, has this take on "outdated" bands:"You look at Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and it's a trip to see bands that were big influences on us and not relevant anymore."
And all those bands influenced Metallica?
"Well," he pondered carefully, "all of them except for Bon Jovi."

I live in Denver - something I'm not necessarily proud of. There's a lot of ways in which this town really blows. But don't get the wrong impression about Denver from this article: Maiden has sold out all three shows in Denver that I've been to. They are well-respected here by the fans.
As for Hammett: I'm surprised. I always thought that he was the member of Metallica with the most good sense (now that Jason is gone). I obviously have to re-think that opinion.
Crap like this is why I get Denver's other major paper, the Rocky Mountain News.
kirk, maiden was there before you, and is gonna be there after your asses settle by the fire place...
indeed Gor, couldnt put it better myself
Hammet s***s and Metallica too!!! How can you say that Maiden are not a relevant band anymore when, after 30 years of career, they are still making sold-out gigs and producing masterpiece critically acclaimed heavy metal albums like Dance of Death!!!!
Hammet should better think about last Metallica album after 5 years of silence, a flop and a perfect commercial record!!!!! REMEMBER : A REAL BAND NEVER COMES TO COMPROMISE LIKE METALLICA HAVE DONE, BUT ALWAYS KEEPS FAITHFUL TO HIS ROOTS AND THE MUSIC THAT LIKES, NOT THE ONE THAT MEDIA LIKE!!!! UP THE IRONS!!!

A member of metallica said that!!!!!!!!!!!!11
It's very rude to laugh at your own jokes
Thanks Bravewords
Metallica What?? and who is Kirk ????
Welll I guess that he wanted to say that Maiden is not relevant to METALLICA anymore, and surely this is true. I dare say that metal is not relevant to Metallica anymore (or that metallica is not relevant to metal anymore, as you wish)...
But if he really wanted to say that Maiden is not relevant to the musical world, and mainly to the heavy metal world, then I think that he should take a brain surgery or at least an EAR SURGERY !!!
Metallica started off wanting to make it like Maiden. Now yes, St. Anger sells more albums than Dance of Death. So fucking what? Iron Maiden has something Metallica will never again get:
Respect.
Who tha fuck Metallica think they are???!!!!??
Metallica are a bunch of assholes who think they are so good they can say anything they want to any band.
Well, sorry to tell you this but:
You are just a 'kin MTV "rock" band who play stupid stuff to earn some cash from innocent eaten-by-MTV fans.
*sues Metallica*
I laugh about mettalica
I respect the old metallica but the new one sucks so much
Respect.
Yeah, actually they asked Martin Birch to produce their first album
Kirk is an idiot. Do we give a sh$% about his opinion?
kirk, maiden was there before you, and is gonna be there after your asses settle by the fire place...
I agree, just compare St. Anger with Dance of Death
Metallica sucks....i dont give a f*ck what he says...because he even doesnt think...
Iron Maiden may ot sell as much as Metallica ..
But Selling lots of albums is not equal to making a good cd ...
St.Anger was not very well produced (as Bob Rock himself told.. they did it on purpose)
---
Now the facts
Iron Maiden is a unique band. It is the greatest band of metal ever . No one can say bad things about Maiden, because IM is simply the most important band.. Anyone inside metal stuff cannot say that Maiden is bad.. because 100%of the metal heads have Iron Maiden among their influences.
---
Metallica was one of the greatest bands ever.. n the middle of the 80's they released many great albums that may even match maiden's albuns of that Time. Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and Justice for all are classics, as well as Somewhere in time, Seventh son, Powerslave, Fear of the Dark, and Dance of Death ..
---
The point is that in a certain point of Metallica's carrer (after Cliff's Death and after the Justice tour was done) they decided to make more comercial albuns and become rock stars. In the beggining of Metallica they said they did not wanted to become giants of metal and MTV, and videos (that is why they don't have video clips with Cliff Burton.. nor there was any video released at that time. The Cliff em all video was released after Cliff's death..
Then Metallica released the Black Album and become huge rock stars, selling lots of albuns. Black album is kinda good.. But it is not the same Metallica ... The cd is far more commercial..
Then they cut their hairs and change their apperance... they become "clean" and release the loads . These albums are not metal anymore ... They are really closer to Red hot chilli peppers than from the old Metallica...
Then they release the Garage inc cd..
Then the S&M. They said it was a new experiment. And the media started to say there was no metal artist that made a live show with an orchestra..
lie :
Yngwie Malmsteen made a recording with the Czech philarmonic orchestra years before. By the way, if you are planning to buy a good cd.. try buying this cd.. Awesome.
---
Then a silence
James went to rehab and Jason left the band. (personal stuff. happens in any band)
---
St.Anger was starting to be recorded...
The band said :
It is going to be heavy, rough agressive . (and it is kinda eavy, rough and agressive)
It is going to be a return to the roots (you have listened to St.Anger and have listned to the Metallica Roots.. Make your colclusions...)
The production of this album was similar to the one of Justice (no comments...)
St. Anger is not a rock album anymore. It is really more agressive than the loads...
But:
There is no Guitar solo
It is a nu-metal stuff.. completely strang to see Metallica posing as if they were nu-metal artists...)
It is not very well produced ...
The drums sound as if they were trash cans ..
-----
Iron Maiden will remain forever in the memory of their fans and in the Metal music as the band that kept inovating (thety always try something different) but staying close to their roots. They will remain forever as the Metal gods
Metallica will remain .. well... make your own conclusions...
But there are some"new" fans of Metallica that when you approach them and say :
Have you seen Cliff Burton'solo in that video?
The fan would say :
Who ?
or :
That bastard ?
While Maiden fans still know all Maiden history... Many keep listening to Dianno and Blaze and helped Clive .
----
Anyway ....
I don't care if Metallica say bad thing about Maiden.
I will keep listening to Maiden...
I read about this...
I don't think it's a big deal. Kirk probably means that those bands aren't relevant to Metallica anymore... in other words, Metallica aren't influenced as much as they once were by Maiden (and the others).
It happens... Nothing to get upset about.
F*ck ´em All!!!!
poor kirk. where’s the strong fan base as it is in case od MAIDEN
i fin it is a load of
kirk, maiden was there before you, and is gonna be there after your asses settle by the fire place...
I guess cocaine abuse has damaged Kirk's brain.
LMAO
"This 'kin article isn't 'kin any 'kin word worth, neither about 'kin Hammet nor about 'kin Metallica at all!"
...this should sound like on of those famouse "Bruce rants"!
Having released the worst album in decades (St. Anger) it is no wonder that members of Metallica are envious of Maiden having a fantastic new album (Dance Of Death) that is loved by fans as well as critics. Poor Kirk, he wasn't even allowed to play a single solo on his record.
Also he might be jealous as Halford and Judas Priest get much more attention than Metallica do. It is sad but true, I remember a mighty young band with an album called "Kill 'em all". Where are they now?
Up the Irons!

First post here!
Well said!-_-
Welcome here!
just compare Dance Of Death and St. Anger. you will see who is relevant
Yeah but if you ask the same question on a Metallica board you will get "DOD is the biggest piece of fucking crap ever", and everyone will hail St Anger as a brilliant album
Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Of course, we're right and they're wrong.
Too bad for them.
