New Maiden DVD Details

Posted by dogigniter on September 15, 2004 @ 10:26

The new Maiden fan club magazine should be on the way to subscribers today.

Except the usual pictures, competitions etc, it contains plenty of information on the new Early Days DVD

"The history of Iron Maiden Part 1" (I guess this means a further possible release or two covering Maiden history later on)

*"'The Early Days' double DVD will be released this summer approximately almost exactly 25 years since Maiden first signed to EMI.

Featured on the first disc is:

Very collectable and never seen before footage Over two and a half hours of live concert performance Strange television appearances Five timely promotional videos Full gig list and chronology, discography and artwork Off the wall Easter eggs

The second disc has 90 minutes of extraordinary interviews with the colourful characters involved with Maiden over this early period - current band members, a whole host of ex-band members, managers, agents, journalists, EMI executives past and present, crew, promoters, fans....everyone has a story!

This facinating documentary chronicles Maiden's early struggles in the mid to late 70's in London's East End (where the hardest was just keeping a line-up together for more than a couple of gigs), through the early successes of their eponimous debut album and "Killers"; their first World Tours; the colossal impact on the rock world that was 'Number of The Beast' and through to the end of their first full headlining World Tour - 'Piece of Mind' in 1983, taking in arenas in some 13 countries.

A very honest and relealing (but also entertaining) insight into just what it was like early on in the world of Eddie and Iron Maiden, it's also a guide book to the problems faced and attitude and talent needed to get the band off the ground and to the pinnacle of world-wide success - and then to keep it there.

This is an absolute must have item for every Iron Maiden fan."*

My guess is that there will be two further releases.

I'm guessinng the next will cover all of the remaining Bruce albums, up to Fear of The Dark, then the next will cover Blaze era and Reunion era.

I just hope my country will be included in the list of the countries that the DVD will arrive in, 'cause if they don't it will be really tough to get it.

The second DVD will probably focus on the 1984-1989 era. I guess there would be another one for the 90s afterwards.

[big snip]

[TidesofBlack.com](http://tidesofblack.com/php/news/index.php?p=229&c=1) adds the following to the story...

Are these two sources really talking about the same DVD? I'd personally consider the fan club magazine to be the more reliable source. Therefore, I expect the new DVD in summer '05 rather than next month.

It's also possible that the DVD will be released in Europe first, given that TidesOfBlack specifies region 2 encoding. Maybe October is the European release date and summer '05 the US release date? Though this wouldn't really make much sense, as Maiden released both RiR and VotB worldwide rather than one continent at a time.

And this is just a personal opinion of mine, but I wouldn't trust anything from that TidesOfBlack site in the first place. They link to stileproject, one of the most revolting websites I've ever seen. Anyone who voluntarily associates themselves with stileproject loses all credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure, but wasn't the RIR US edition pushed back for whatever reason ?

It may have been. I thought it came out at the same time as Europe, but I'm the first to admit my memory may be faulty.

> @sinister: summer '05 is a year away, you mean '04 probably

Umm ... summer '04 is **over** according to my calendar. Sounds like you may still be using an old Roman calendar - I suggest you upgrade to the Gregorian calendar that the rest of us started using a few hundred years ago.

In all seriousness, October is just a month away. We'll find out then if something gets released!

If the DVD release is roughly celebrating 25 years since Maiden first signed to EMI, it would indeed be released in early November (or late October) this year, and not next summer.

But still, after reading the two stories carefully, I must agree they don't seem to be about the same DVD. Therefore, I'm removing the Tides of Black, currently not knowing what to do with it. Actually, a recent rumour lists exactly the same contents, so it's not really necessary.

Additionaly, Maiden never had a member with the name of Jeff Daniels. Just wanted to make that clear.

It seems that there would be more than 1 DVD about the history of the band. I bet the second one will feature the 1984-1989 period.

True. He was one of their first roadies and he will appear too.
