Paul Di'Anno to Retire ?

Posted on the Maiden BB:

During the show, Paul said (from what I understood) that when this tour ends, he's going to do one more tour, plus a show in Israel, and that tour would be his last!

He always throws around rumours and tells people things that aren't true
so i don't believe such things. He said that he was half italian and brazillian, but he is "just"english. And his name is Paul Matthews. sorry 'bout that.

After what he did to himself I think he deserves to go home OR get back to how he was with Iron Maiden (that's quite impossible) .

I really want to like this guy but I hardly ever hear any good press about him, just lies and constant repetition of Maiden classics instead of his own songs

Haven't listened to any of his stuff at all really. However, I saw some of his albums in my record shop lately so I ask you, is any of it worth getting? Well, even if it isn't I guess I should check it out anyway as a Maiden fan.

As for his endless parade of Maiden songs, well, I do think it's sad as well. With such a large back catalogue of self-written songs he has material enough to fill his own setlist. I don't mind him playing an odd Maiden song at a concert, but talking about how Maiden lost the magic and then playing a set consisting of 70% Maiden stuff is just stupid.

I like his gigs. They bring me back 25 years ago when I was young and wild!

I quoted Shadow here because I used to feel exactly the same way about Di'Anno. But in some of the recent interviews he's given, he seems to be getting more sensible about Maiden... acknowledging that he wasn't fit to continue in the direction the band was going, saying that he thinks they've done well since his departure etc. So I'm willing to give him a break for now.

As far as playing so many Maiden songs - let's face it, he hasn't achieved major success with his own music since leaving Maiden. Sure he's had some, but most people still think of him as Maiden's original singer. (Or at least the singer from Maiden's first records, which is more accurate of course.) If he wants to sell tickets and make a living singing, then he HAS to play Maiden songs. That's what most people want to hear from him.

As far as retiring - I somehow doubt he has enough cash saved up to afford it.

you better hear his music and buy his records.
(incredible stuff like nomad, murder one, dianno, battlezone etc etc)
