A Longer Set in Sweden, DVD Forthcoming ?

on June 13, 2005 @ 17:16

Many sources tell us that the broadcast of the Ullevi show to the Swedish and Finn television will last for 150 minutes, while the current set lasts for about 110 minutes.

This length doesn't include the interview that will be on TV on the previous day.

Nicko said in his diaries that the set wouldn't change for the rest of the tour, but since 21 cameras are present to broadcast the event, some think that the band is willing to add some songs for a future DVD release of the show.

A DVD of this tour has been confirmed by Bruce here, but the contents are yet unknown.

Maybe they will play SPOILER, and hopefully then they will include SPOILER back in the setlist.......... nah don't think so.....
But it would be great if they make another dvd, it's good to release a good recorded live show after the tour and include a bonus disc with loads of extra's.

They did Run To the Hills as an extra song for Rock in Rio but I'd be suprised if they added 40 minutes of extra songs.

I doubt many bands have gone on tour in support of a DVD release then released a DVD of that tour - not that I'm complaining I'd like a DVD of every tour.

I've edited my post to include the fact that Bruce stated that the tour was recorded and that a DVD would eventually be made:

I sure hope that it will be a DVD of it, beacause I'll be there! biggrin.gif But the longer time for the set might also be a buffert to make sure that the whole show will be aired. wink.gif

has it been confirmed that the broadcast will be live? Because if its not, why can't the 40 mins be commercials?

It's live in Sweden and it has an 1 hour delay in Finland.

That's what the press announcement said, anyway.

Cheers

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Maybe its "almost" live so maybe its starts live then as they play comercials the recording gets less and less live. Either that or Bruce will have some extra long rants tongue.gif

Yes, it will be live in Sweden and in Finland it will be sent with one hour delay. www.ironmaiden.com says so, and so does SVT (the channel that broadcastes it). There will be no commercials, SVT doesn't have any. smile.gif

A longer setlist would not be nice for those who go to other shows. They will probably be 1 or 2 more songs, but not more.

The graspopsite says that maiden will play 2 hours on graspop.
But don't really think they would make a dvd of thet show

graspop didn't last for 2h, despite they said it... Maiden stopped at 23.50 or so, then it was fireworks...

great gig though, also really liked Dio & Dream Theater..., Primal Fear was great also, pity they went so early (14.15 or so), so not that great atmosphere...

As far as a longer set is concerned, it wasn't clearly the point in Bospop, yesteray nite. The set lasted a bare 90 minutes, all included, intro & encore. Bruce didn't even bother to introduce the band to the audience...So we had something like 1h 22 of music, the Ides of march intro and a few sparse lines given by Bruce who really seemed on minimum service. Technically speaking, the gig was great though, much better than in Paris regarding the sound as well as the ability to watch the band from quite close. But they had no screens either, so u had to be close in a sense...

Still after 31 or 32 Maiden shows in 17 years (most of'em in the last 6 years) tongue.gif , I regret the lack of surprises & changes of songs in the set list, everybody else -from U2 to Metallica does it- So why couldn't they. tongue.gif

Just for your information. It's a time difference between sweden and finland of one hour. so when it's 10 in sweden it's 11 in finland so I think it will be broadcasted live in finland too, but just that the time is different.

The Bospop gig was cool. You are right about the length of the set (1 hour and 32 minutes by my watch) and 'Running free' had a really short singalong part, probably due to the lack of audience response. During the whole gig most people in the crowd did nothing when Bruce asked for interaction. Being used to people in Spain going mad through the whole gig, it was a bit surreal.

Kevin says in his latest diary:

Just checked into the hotel, which has throngs of Iron Maiden fans waiting outside with all manner of Eddie paraphenalia. Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith's wife and kids were on the flight, as was Barry Drinkwater - so we swapped a few stories and am now headed into a Maiden production meeting with regards to the big show and TV broadcast tomorrow! Fill you in later..

So, basically it means he will produce a DVD of it !

I'm holding this off the main news as it was expected and there's not much substance. Interesting however.

Cheers

But no longer than any other on the tour.
