Full Rock Brigade Interview with Bruce

on July 6, 2005 @ 14:24

While Maidenfans offered you the main points of the Rock Brigade interview with Bruce, Nando at Brucefans has taken the time to translate and transcript it fully.

Here's an interesting extract (SPOILER warning: there's a song of the current tour mentionned in the last question displayed here):

As producer, Roy Z always obtain a great performances. Why he did not work in the last two Maiden albums? No offenses to Kevin Shirley, but Roy seemed to be an obvious choice.

That's nothing to do with me. When it's about Maiden you must ask to Steve [laughs]. I've been facing Maiden much more calmly nowadays. I go there and say: 'Let's go play, let's go have fun'. I suggest something, I give ideas. If they like, it's ok. If they don't like, there's no problem, there will be others. And Kevin is a great producer.

What's the difference between making a solo album and a Maiden album?

When the album is mine, the decisions are mine. Under some aspects, it's more stressing because all the responsibility is on me. On Maiden, Steve is the leader, so he is under pressure.

The new Maiden tour will be great. See the band playing just songs from the first four albums it's a dream that will become reality for a lot of fans. How do you fell about all that classics songs?

It's fantastic! We want to play for the Ozzfest audiences for years. These festivals are very expensive for the kids and the venues are more interesting to sell beers and overcrowding the parking lot than promoting the bands. But wait to see us playing Phantm of the Opera [laughs].

THX, great interview, as always. Bruce may sometimes say some unreal stuff. But in general it is so interesting reading his thoughts. I only hope they start earlier with the new Maiden album. If they start thinking about it in the new year, I highly estimate that it won't be finished for the summer and some tours.

Actually, I don't see them playing any festivals next summer. They can't play festivals every year, the promoters need some variety!

The question is, if Maiden do a small Tour, will it be economically efficient. Designing a stage, doing the logistics make a high standard of fixed costs. Either they need to reduce their stageshows or they have to cut Touring down, or are damned to play longer Tours than they want!

Let's see what happens. I would certainly enjoy seeing Bruce solo next summer.
