Japanese Bonus Tracks to Tyranny Of Souls ?

on April 8, 2005 @ 14:56

Since all the previous Bruce albums had some bonus tracks for their japanese releases, the hot question at the moment is what 'Tyranny of Souls' could contain.

The only rumor at the moment is that the following tracks will be added:

Chemical Wedding (Live)
Emblem of Hate (written and produced by Roy Z)

These could also be part of a CD-single, to be released in Europe and Japan only with the main song being 'Abduction', the second track on the new Bruce album.

More often than not, b-sides are the bonus tracks in Japan. We'll see.

I've often wondered why bands (including Iron Maiden and Bruce) often put out albums or singles with bonus tracks only in Japan? A good example is Bruce's Chemical Wedding, whose Japanese edition was the only one with The Ghost of Cain.

Does anyone know why?

Because Japenese people understand some English?
I have no idea. But the Japs get everything before us.

Actually Ghost of Cain was an AoB B Side so we got it before the Japanese smile.gif

CD's in Japan usually end up costing them a lot more than it does us, so some artists put on extra stuff to make up for it.

So, why should we have less songs than them. CDs cost us money too.

Could always import it. Anyway, it would appear that the bonus tracks will be on the single so it's no big loss really.

what? do you know what are you taqlking about?
ghost of cain is the "B-side" of european accident of birth single / bonus track on AOB japanese album!

IM have no problems with singles but bruce obviously has.

emblem of hate sounds great to me. id like to see that single in europe too. it was sad that CW had only 1 single release and only in japan!

I think there may be more physical space on CD's in Japan. I'm not too sure though.

The Japan situation derives from an old situation. It's a little more complex than what some of you are thinking.

Japanese record companies are an important factor in every record deal. Even if their power has faded, they still retain much muscles in the financial advances they make to an artist, a label or a producer. Note that these advances are at the core of any deal in the recording industry.

If you add to this that the big Japanese market is completely deregulated, you have the explanation: for they can't strike exclusive deals or preempt their own market, labels in Japan could be completely dethroned by imports.

So, in order to get sales, they offer their financial power in exchange for special releases (bonus tracks, packaging,...) that they can manufacture locally. Imports lose their pricing edge and Japanese labels get their own kind of exclusive deal.

It's interesting to know that when they had even more power, these labels got the possibility to get very advance releases of some albums, sometimes more than 2 months in advance ! It was another kind of exclusivity. With the p2p-days in force however, this happens less and less.

Hope I was clear.

Cheers

Yeah! That's what I meant to say!

Another reason: making CDs in Japan is really expensive and the Japanese (and there local) release is usually much more expensive than the imported version. Hence, bonus tracks are needed in order to sell the product manufactured in Japan.

Actually it's linked to the fact that Japs translate english into ...jap and hence the release of records is often postponed. Because the record company doesn't want people to buy cds as import, they usually add some stuff so as to encourage people to wait some time and buy the japanese version. I dunno where I read that info but it's serious.
It's absolutely unfair to us but as long as I can get the extra tracks as cd-single or something like that, I'm happy. Problem is that sometimes the track is not available in Europe and Americas as cd-single e.g. in 1995 with "I live my way". Shit happens.... blink.gif
