Nicko Interviewed by Drummer Magazine
In the February 2005 (issue #17) of Drummer Magazine, there's an extensive interview of Nicko McBrain.
Here are some points of interest for Maiden fans:
- 'Piece of Mind' (1983) is his favourite album.
- 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' (1988) is his other favourite Maiden album.
- He also really likes 'Brave New World' (2000) because it has superb drums on it and because of the clarity of its recording.
- He's usually given free reign over how to drum on Maiden songs. A notable exeception was 'Paschendale' on the last album for which Adrian Smith showed him how he wanted the drumming.
- Now that he wrote 'New Frontier' for 'Dance of Death' (2003), he has a lot more songs written on the bass.
- Steve decides the setlists of the tours. Nicko says how good Steve is at getting a setlist that is well balanced between short and long songs.

Steve was interviewed by Val Potter in Dublin during the DoD tour and he said that the setlist for that tour was mostly Bruce's idea.
Ah, but I can certainly see Steve having the final say.
