Pictures from Hollywood Rockwalk Induction

on August 20, 2005 @ 19:00

Iron Maiden were officially inducted into Guitar Center's Hollywood RockWalk Friday evening (August 19). Band members added their handprints — with a fake skeleton hand to stand in for their album cover skeleton mascot, "Eddie" — to the sidewalk gallery outside the Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard, according to the Associated Press. Check out pictures of the induction: Wire Image, Film Magic, Yahoo! News.

Hollywood's RockWalk is the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution rock 'n' roll, blues and R&B. Their hand prints and signatures will reside alongside other equally accomplished musicians and innovators such as ERIC CLAPTON, JIMI HENDRIX, LOU REED, JOHNNY CASH, AEROSMITH, B.B. KING, VAN HALEN, JAMES BROWN, GEORGE MARTIN, STEVE MILLER, SONIC YOUTH, BRIAN WILSON, CARLOS SANTANA, CARL PERKINS, JOHN LEE HOOKER, THE RAMONES, BONNIE RAITT and HOLLAND-DOZIER-HOLLAND, among others.

the real news is what happend after, just about everyone who went thought it was an autograph-signing, as did me and my friends, who ran our asses off to catch 3 buses, train hopped on the subway, facing 300 dollar fines, just to get there to find it was just an induction. people went ballistic, if you were there you know, if you werent, people were throwing anything they could once they closed the gate, they totally wrecked it, someone even ran off with one of the velvet rope and its holder. the police had to drive everyone out, while the guitar center workers held the gate, having drinks and things tossed at them, and being cussed out, the street was closed off for nearly an hour. and around 10 or so me and my friends unknowingly met the drummer from the Iron Maidens, she pulled up and told us to check them out and gave us flyers and drove off..crazy stuff

Maidenfans,

This is my account to what occured at the Rockwalk on Friday, Aug 19.
First, I went to the celebration where Iron Maiden were given their space in front of a store called Guitar Center. Rod Smallwood and the six Maiden guys were there along with many other people who accompanied them. There were also several members of the media such as radio DJ's. I don't know why they were there since Maiden are not played in radio stations in Los Angeles.
I can safely say that there were about 2000 to 3000 people and it lasted about 20 minutes.

Up the Irons Forever,
Pico-Union
