Ross Halfin Adds a New Maiden Picture Page

Posted by The Saint on September 16, 2005 @ 21:37

Ross Halfin, the famous photographer, has added a new page in its roster of Iron Maiden pictures.

Very nice pictures of the band on- and backstage at Reading. Whole lot of cute pictures of Stanley Harris as a Trooper.

And if you're wondering about one particular picture, don't worry, it's a Powerslave-era one that Ross added for a fan who kept asking about it !

Check them here.

These pictures also aswer the question raised in an earlier thread concerning the length of Bruce's hair. These are the longer haired pictures that were thought to be from the beginning of the Hammersmith/Clive Foundation gig, with pictures later in the show showing Bruce with much shorter hair, leading some to speculate that Bruce had his hair cut during the show. Mystery solved. The longer haired pictures were from Reading.

It's just in the middle of that page. The picture with Bruce spreading his arms and his Powerslave mask on.

Thanks NumberSix. I see it now. What is the mask about?

Does anyone feel like gratifying this abysmal question with an answer?

Steve Harris was a big fan of the old, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. During the early 70s, Gabriel was known for wearing masks onstage to dramatize his songs. So Dickinson's mask is clearly a tribute to Gabriel, almost certainly suggested by Steve.

Wasn't it because he was very young and was trying to hide his horrible acne?

And it perfectly fits in the Powerslave theme.

I don't know if you were being serious, but it doesn't make much sense. Steve suggesting Bruce to do something Steve likes, when it comes to Bruce's performance?

Right...

Since Bruce wrote the song himself, he probably liked it himself and came up with it himself.

Wasn't that mask rather a reminder of Bruce's other half as a fencing champ. He was probably so disappointed not being allowed to play neither "Flash of the blade" nor "the Duellists" on stage that he decided to sport that nice mixture of plaster & feathers instead
Plus notice the way he wears his socks up to his knees on the pictures from that era. Very fencing-like those adorable white socks on his black spandex proudly emphasizing his lunch box...Bruce D. or the glamour attitude brought to perfection!
Start to wonder whether he's not definitely looking better in his pilot uniform. Never been a fan of the tie & suit yet.

Can anyone tell me the story behind the pic 100 here

The one top right hand corner. Steve Harris with Rick Savage's bass guitar and Phil Collen on what looks like Def Leppards stage set.

Really intrigued by the shot.

Help please!

Isn't that Harry's own bass guitar?

No defo not - if you look at the headstock it's clearly a Hamer the angle is not that of a Precision. Also if you look very closely you cand see Rick Allen in the background.

Anyone else know about this at all?

Bruce is also a huge Peter Gabriel fan. He probably decided to use the mask himself. The man isn't short of theatrical ideas...

Anyone noticed this old diary by Steve (probably from 1981)?
Never saw it before, I wonder if anyone here knew about it.
