Last night's Maiden gig in Poland was yet another success for the band.

The setlist was exactly the same as in Prague on the first night. Right before the encores, the entire 30000 crowd started to shout 'Fear of the Dark' leaving the band uneasy when they re-entered the arena for their last songs.

Shows how popular this song actually is.

Lightshow had some problems during the show, but it seems the Festival's crew couldn't handle it well enough.

Here a review, Polish_Eddie reports:

I'm back from first 2 shows of the tour! They were both bloody awesome though there were some sound problems on both shows - especially in Chorzow.

They use pyro at following songs:
- Another Life (or was it Murders In The Rue Morgue? I don't remember... just 1st or 2nd show - something like flames during The Wicker Man on Rock In Rio)
- Die With Your Boots On (coming from left and right to the centre of the stage. looks cool!)
- The Number Of The Beast - real flames!!
- Iron Maiden

I spoke with Doug Hall in Poland. The band MIGHT decide to change the setlist after Graz show. But I hope they won't change anything and they won't play Fear Of The Dark on this tour! It wouldn't suit the concept! What a shame that Polish fans were chanting for it...

Backdrops they are using: Killers (Another Life), Early Days cover, Eddie Rips Up, Phantom Of The Opera (single from LAD), Running Free, street from Iron Maiden cover, The Trooper (Bruce is dressed as Trooper on this song - cool!), Run To The Hills, cool 666 back-light on TNOTB (great production on this one with devil-girls jumping on stage and attacking the band - LOL!) and I think TNOTB cover for HBTN... The paintings on the stage platforms changes during the show. At the beggining they look similar like on Beast On The Road Tour but after 1-2 songs they change to "Early Days" DVD look with "22 ACACIA AVE" sign, posters etc. Quite cool. It's visually similar to Give Me Ed production.
A lot of smoke (like on Paschendale live) come on stage during Remember Tomorrow.

From the "rare" songs audience enjoy the most Phantom and Running Free. They are not much familiar with tunes like Another Life, Drifter or Charlotte The Harlot.

If you have any questions about the show, let me know. I'll try to answer them.

Here are some small pics coming from a polish website reviewing the gig:

Shows how stupid people can be. The theme of the whole tour is the first four albums everybody was warned... sleep.gif

The most stupidest thing is that people actually want that song played again. Instead that everyone is glad to hear lots of rare songs while Fear of the dark is saved for the next tours, people are still begging them to play it.

Nicko screwed up the drum roll intro of Murders In The Rue Morgue (really slowed down the last few beats of the intro) ;-)

The devil girls were really cool, chased Janick and Bruce all over the stage, and at the end of the solo's Bruce swinged the mic at one of them, to tell her "go away". In a joking fashion, of course.

Hi all!
Hopefully I'll be attending the spanish Maiden show at Lorca Rock Festival. To me it's a lifetime opportunity to see the band. I'll fly from Canary Islands to Alicante, then by car to Murcia. A three days trip that will cost me around €600-€700.

I will enjoy every single song, every single note, every single light and drop of sweat I make, because I won't be watching this group again, so if I have to scream "Fear of the Dark" to see if they play it I will from the top of my lungs.

I don't care if they want to save it for the next tour or if they don't plan to play that song again, just want them to play it when I'm there.

So please don't call me stupid!, even though I know they won't play the song, it doesn't mean I can't ask for it!!.

Best wishes

That's what I call high hopes. Would they care for someone like you? I doubt it (not that you're not worth it, but they're only doing a job with a schedule that does not allow for changes).

Enjoy the show all the same and... don't be disappointed when they don't play 'Fear Of The Dark'! smile.gif

Thank you Maverick, I will enjoy the show anyway. I know they won't play the song.

I bought "Piece of Mind" when I was 14, now I'm 35. I've waited 21 years to see this guys in concert, even if they get on stage and play some folk songs from Canary Islands I wouldn't be disappointed!!

question for whoever has been to the gigs so far:

how is bruce? ..as in between songs? is he witty and humorous as he was before (this would keep with the early days tradition, as from what ive heard and seen--beast over hammersmith '82--bruce actually was quite funny and also friendly with the audience) or does he still throw around expletives every other sentence when interacting with the audience (as is the case in Rock in Rio)? just wondering...i wont get to see maiden this year anyway since they cant come to dallas cussing[1].gif ..i did see them at GMETID tour, but i dont remember what bruce was like. so im just curious

In your case it's a bit different but 99,9% of the fans who scream for Fotd will get pleny of opportunities to hear the song live again. I bet this will the only tour where they don't play the song.

Indeed some ppl can't understand the "real professional business". When they say only the first 4 albums, it is only the first 4 albums, like it or not. I don't know what's wrong with you ppl out there, but the message was clear. So hoping for a Live Fear of the Dark will be a waste of energy... and a sign of stupidity.
Speaking of stupidity, I have a perfect example (sorry for being an a**, but it's true) : cynic.
Now just read the content of his post. Just take a look at it. (without mentioning the F word that he used)

QUOTE

I do respect your opinion that they are boring (even if I don;t share it), but damn it, THINK (if you can). It's not a personal gig. You've got 29 999 other fans in the same arena, and 99.99% share an opposite opinion. And a big part of them are assisting to their first concert. Now go and tell them "no Trooper, no Number of the Beast, no Run to the Hills" is called suicide.

Just damn it guys. Can't you be satisfied of the show and the set list ? Or no, coz they didn't play songs of the next album (the one of 2006)? Or maybe coz Bruce's voice doesn't sound exaclty as it is on the album ? Or worse, because Bruce didn;t sing a couple of songs related to his new album ?
You're just a bunch of winners. A bunch of low-life ppl who think that they can get all what they want. Just be happy that these guys (Iron Maiden), who are practically around 50 are still giving you want/you are asking for : great songs, great show, great production, great sound, and great songs.
So grow up a bit, and be HAPPY that you have the chance to assist to an Iron Maiden gig, that you have the chance to see a great show, and that these guys are still on the road only for you (Iron Maiden doesn't care about money more than fans. If you have a problem with that, we can deal it somewhere else. Full stop.).

Even if I wanted them to play Wrathchild live, I'm still satisfied, and I'll always be as long as I still have my ticket for the french gig.

Anyway, great pictures of a great gig. A special thanks to POLISH_EDDIE and Maidenau as well as others (The Saint, Maverick...) who gave us a unique review. Thx guys. smile.gif

Yeah. Eddie Rips Up posters with all European tour dates. smile.gif
Merchandise was nothing special... Just usual stuff:
Shirts: white longsleve Rainbow, Early Days, Trooper, Eddie Rips Up, album covers etc.

SPINAL TAP moment in Prague: During Remember Tomorrow there was way too much smoke than it was planned and they couldn't see a thing. Adrian wanted to switch his guitar sound but he couldn't see the floor so he stopped playing for a bit and started laughing. wink.gif

Friends, is it too much to ask for a little civility on this forum? Since 7th Death already admitted to being an a**, I don't mean to pick on him, but this has to be pointed out...

7th Death's main reason for calling cynic "stupid" was because 7th Death disagreed with cynic's opinion. Just because someone thinks differently than you doesn't make them stupid! Differences of opinion can be handled in a more civilized way. Remember, this is a discussion forum. Feel free to discuss rather than start flame wars.

If you're going to call someone stupid, please do so because they're acting stupidly, e.g. leetspeak/netspeak, gross misuse of language, or obvious displays of idiocy that can't be attributed solely to opinion. I'm not saying you can't call someone stupid - just do it for the right reasons.

I treated him as "stupid" because what he posted wasn't logical. Not because we didn't have the same opinion. That's all.
And being an a** wasn't related to my general behaviour, but only for what I've said before mentioning it.

Eighteenth Iron Maiden concert in Poland. Second on "The Early Years Tour". Once again we could become convinced about how indestructible they are. Those six guys, who derive pleasure from recording every album, and first of all, from playing concerts. This time it was a return to the past. From the years, where Maiden played in small clubs, where gathered dozens, then hundreds of people, through the huge succees of "The Number Of The Beast" album, when Maiden experienced how it is to be really loved by fans, up to the brilliance of "Piece Of Mind". We knew, that most of the tracks on this tour will be from the first four albums. Everyone impatiently awaited the gig... It was the time, when we were going to hear Bruce's versions of the songs, that have been originally recorded by Paul Di'Anno. We were going to see through our own eyes amazing, referred to the early history of the band, stage design. But most of all, we were going to hear songs, that haven't been played for very long years!

I entered stadium around 1:00pm. Without any problems I got a special "band" - thanks for it I could enter the sector on the floor, right in front of the stage. Unfortunately, Mystic's organization wasn't perfect, but way better than two years ago. What surprised me, we could enter the stadium with our own plastic bottles with water/juice [it is never allowed]. This time though, it seems that someone really used their heads. On Sunday were more than 30 degrees Celsius in shadow here! At the stadium were special cars, that were spilling water on heated by the sun and atmosphere fans of heavy music. Security at the barriers was handing out the bottles with mineral water. Thanks for that, we could surivive the whole Festival. I still feel sorry for people who were going to have fun during the concerts of the first bands, because on the floor was like on a pan. I didn't take a risk to go there until evening. I listened to the music lying calmly in the shadow, gathering energy for Maiden gig. I saw part of Nightwish gig though, but I am not really fond of their music.

Frankly, the prospect of waiting 10 hours for the moment when Maiden will capture the whole stadium really horrified me. But it was worth my while! It was worth, because I have never had this chance before, at any gig, to get so easy so near the stage even 30 minutes before everything started. It was worth, because in that sector was rather... calm, I mean: no huge mosh pits, squashing, and stuff like that [Polish audience is always extremely crazy]. But what was the most important, I managed to get to the third row during the concert! And from that place, I could see everything perfectly well, because the stage was quite high. It was so worth doing it, because while being two metres from the band, you can feel that those people, that we usually watch on the posters, clips or DVDs, are standing right in front of you. And they are playing the gig FOR YOU.

I reveled in the concert on the right side of the stage, exactly in front of Jan and Steve. Dave and Adrian also came there from time to time, and Bruce..., Bruce was everywhere, as always. He was running from one end of the stage, to the other, on the platforms, to Nicko's drums, and back. That's a shame that Nicko never had the chance to change his location, but at the most to appear from behind the drums

At the beginning of two Maiden gigs that I have seen before, I never was close enough to see the first moment, the first seconds, first facial expressions of each band member, right after running into the stage. This time I had this chance. Well, it must be experienced. Emotions at the highest level: you cannot stop the scream of joy, applause, maybe even tears of emotion. Because here they are, called "gods of heavy metal" by many, again enter the stage, in order to play another, unforgettable gig for Polish fans.

At the beginning: The Ides Of March. Oh damn, that was good. Powerful beginning, brilliant intro plus play of lights and the scream of crazy fans. Awaiting... Which track will they play as the first one? And after one moment, we can hear first sounds of "Murders In The Rue Morgue" and since that moment I was sure, that the party in front of the stage will be excellent. Euphoria of 30 000 crowd, Iron Maiden on the stage, right in front of me Steve singing from the very beginning, till the end. The end of the gig, obviously. That song was great live, although it is not one of my favourites. It is very energetic though, but energy is inseparable part of Iron Maiden concerts, without exception. We already felt that atmosphere from 25 years back. Oh, maybe not 100%, as the gigs were played in rather different conditions then. Right next, "Another Life", a short track, which actually went on very quickly. Again Bruce showed us, that while singing Paul's song, he can be as good, or even better than him. Again the chance to compare both singers - "Prowler". It is not my favourite track either [frankly, I listen to the first two albums seldom, probably because of Paul's voice?], but I did enjoy it! During live show, each song reaches a new dimension, sounds differently, sounds better. Then it was time for "The Trooper", classic, that they couldn't omit during this tour. It was all sang by the audience. But that, what was next, was beyond my expectations.

"Remember Tomorrow", live, sung by Bruce Dickinson. Now I should put a full-stop in here and continue my review talking about the next song, because now I have no words to describe it. That song was phenomenal, I am still absolutely impressed. Beginning very calm: lighters everywhere, we are singing with Bruce, whose face showed that he felt that song with all his soul. When we were near "I shall return from out of the fire"... Ah! What can I say! This power, this intensity, those shivers on my back, this Bruce's voice and piercing sounds that came through my body will remain in my memory forever. Brilliant! Bravo, bravo and once again bravo! Dickinson proved what he is able to do. During "Run To The Hills" I could rest a little bit... we can hear this song during every tour, so sooner or later it must become boring. But no one showed it, actually, we all enjoyed it as much as we could while shouting: "Run to the hills, run for your lives!". And at the end this Bruce's scream.... "Charlotte The Harlot" was great, live version, and with Bruce on vocals, was way better than the original one.

Naturally, during the gig we could hear lots of "SCREAM FOR ME POLAND!!!", on which audience's reaction was obvious. Bruce unceasingly proved that he is the best frontman ever. "You want some revelations, don't you?", Bruce asked, but right after he found out how obvious was the answer, because he heard rapturous applause. Last time we could hear "Revelations" live in June 2003. That integration while singing and clapping our hands during that track is the proof, how much people love it and how fantastic it is performed live. Great. Bravo for us and for the guys! When I heard first sounds of the next song I was shocked. "Where Eagles Dare". Without a doubt, one of the best compositions ever, which we couldn't hear for many years live. Once again: pure brilliance. I couldn't believe they played it! And how they played it... I have no words. Assessment as high as possible! "Die With Your Boots On" simply rocked, great track for gigs, enthusiasticly sung by the audience. "Phantom Of The Opera" - so many people love this song, I don't like it that much, but this what I heard on the gig was amazing! Fantastic performance. Next classic song, during playing it a huge red devil appeared on the left side of the stage - "The Number Of The Beast", I have no doubt that every single person that was that night on the stadium sang it. That song didn't even compare with the next one.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name". Hell yeah. One of those, which cannot be omitted! Although it is always played, it doesn't bore, because there is something unusual in it. By many considered as the best Maiden songs ever. I could discuss this opinion, but surely it is one of the best their tracks. Brilliant performance. Bruce proved that he is in a great shape. When we heard "Iron Maiden" we knew, that the end is closer and closer... For me, personally, "Iron Maiden" is already very boring, but I understand that it is such a 30 years lasting tradition
