Rest in peace our friend....
Somewhere up there watchin' us....
A truly sad loss. I never met the fellow, but I've spoken to several people who have met him - and by all reports, he was a great guy.
The last I heard, Manu's passing means that Eddie's Bar is likely to close down because Steve doesn't have a person who he trusts enough to take it over. (This came from a patron of Eddie's Bar who was in the chatroom the other day; sorry, I can't remember the person's name.) Does anybody have any more information on what will happen to the bar?
I met him 3 years ago when i went to eddies bar, it was a really nice guy. R.I.P brother
rest in peace our friend. how did he die?
I think he had been unwell for some time. I may be wrong but I think Maidenfans posted a get well message several months ago.
RIP
This is sad, sad news for Manu's family and the Maiden-family.
Words don't make any sence at the moment I'm afraid.
R.I.P. Manu.

The site, http://www.eddiesbar.fr.st/, seems to be temporarily down, but keep checking it and leave a little message in the guestbook when it's active again. In the meantime, the guestbook can be found at this address: http://www.maxiservices.net/livre/livre-5917-0.html
My thoughts go to Manu's family and friends. I didn't know him personally, but his untimely death seems to confirm that "Only The Good Die Young"...

IronMaiden.com adds:
Long time close friend of Iron Maiden, Manu Da Silva, sadly lost his 18 month battle with cancer and passed away on Tuesday 31st May.
Manu - known to many fans as the manager of Eddies bar in Santa Barbara de Nexe in Portugal has been a friend to the band since 1981. He first met Steve Harris while working as a roadie for the french band, Trust, when Iron Maiden were touring with them.
He eventually joined Iron Maiden on the road throughout the 80's as one of the crew and worked
with them until the end of 1988.
In 1989 Manu then retired to Portugal where he then took on running Eddie Bar at Steve's request which opened the same year. He was also a prominent member of the Moto Club in Faro, which organises one of the most important motorbike meetings in Europe.
Our collective thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Great that the official site made this little tribute ! Maybe Steve or Bruce will have some words on the next gig, who knows...
Cheers
*salutes*
He's kicking ass in a better place now
Very sad to hear this...my thoughts are with the guy's family.
Ìt`s very very sad news for us...
Rest In Peace friend...
I've never met him, but I've heard nothing but great things about Manu. Rest in Peace.
Rest in peace man!
I have a question...is "Como Estais Amigos" a maiden original? Because if it is, it would be very likely that the band was referring to Manu and other friends they have in Portugal (for those who don't know the title means "How are you friends") when they wrote it. At least the song and memory will stay with us...I hope Eddie's Bar stays open, I would like to visit it next holidays...
RIP Manu
Eveyone go listen to Paschendale! It will make you feel better!

1 - 'Como Estais Amigos' is a Spanish sentence, and Manu was Portuguese;
2 - It's a song about the Falklands War.
R.I.P., Manu...
I didnt't know the origin of the song, that's why I asked and I thank you Maverick for the enlightment. However I am Portuguese and I think I know my own language quite well..."Como Estais Amigo" is a portuguese sentence but I believe it can also be a spanish one... so it makes every sense that this music would be dedicated to him, given it's message and melody.
rock on Manu..
I suggest you re-read the lyrics to the song, and maybe check its commentary.
"Como estais amigos" is an spanish sentence. The only thing that sounds strange about this song is that its dedicated to Argentinians, isnt it? they call us friends and all that stuff... but here we dont use spanish as it is in Spain. Here, we say "como estan amigos?"
Do I mean?

Post it in the corresponding Commentary forum! This is important information!

Actually, I think they just went for the first translation they had. I'm not sure they speak spanish
'Como estáis' is the familiar plural in Spain. In SA, 'Como están' is both familiar and formal plural...
But I don't think they thought about that
Cheers
Rest in Peace: Manu da Silva
RIP Manu!!!!!
Reste en Paix, Manu
