Studio Update from the Caveman
Producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley has posted an update from the recording of the new Maiden album (preliminarily due for release in October) along with a bunch of pictures:Greetings from Eddie Central! Some thumbnails from the Iron Maiden sessions in London. Jann, Ed and Nicko above, listening to a song! + It's going REALLY great!!!! I've never been part of a more fun Maiden session - lots of laughing and we've cut eight tracks in the first week - and they're stunning! Heavy, and more proggy than recently - but also more GROOVE than I've heard in a long time! Super strong material - and it sounds heavy as hell!!!! Awesome! And that's about as much as I can reveal - I hope you like these fun pix from the studio. Ooooer!! K ;)
The pictures and other diary entries can be found at Caveman Productions.com

Ahhh fucking hell. More proggy? Does that mean an album of 10 minute songs instead of 8 this time?
'More proggy' sounds worrying. However, 'groove' and 'heavy' *does* sounds promising.
What are you on about? Progressive is good
Progressive is good? Not for Maiden. 'Proggy' is a danger warning for samey, over-long Steve Harris tracks, probably featuring the dreaded acoustic bass intro and outro. Boring! I want classic Maiden but others seem to want something closer to Dream Theatre.
I've been wanting and expecting Maiden to explore deeper in a prog direction, so that sounds great to me. But I wonder what the Cavemen meant by more 'GROOVE'.... Whatever.... The album sounds like it's going to be great.
Shout the fuck up... fuckin whiners...
Trooper666, aren't you whining about the whiners? ;-)
most of you are not good readers....didn t notice at all that 8 tacks have been cut ... obviously not 8 minute tracks
What, may I ask, is wrong with more prog? Maiden do a bloody good job of it. Haven't you heard Paschendale? I hope there's more stuff like that on the new record - I like the orchestral side to it as well with the strings because it reminds me of when Metallica played that genius show with the San Fran Symphony Orchestra. From Ross Halfin's diary:
"Bored today, I even read Kevin Shirley's highly uninteresting diary which tells you nothing about the new Maiden record - he must be scared of Maiden's manager, Merck Mercuriadis... Kevin's posted some studio photos which are fascinating..."
I must say I agree with the first sentence.
I think Maiden should just get rid of tracks like No More Lies. But then again this would mean to also get rid of Steve.Anyway I belive that Steve lost his touch. It is certain that some songs will be of that kind on the new album as well.Let's hope that Jan and Adrian offer some fast, guitar-and not-bass based songs
What is wrong with Kevin? Why don't we have any studio updates?Could it be that Kevin is not allowed to do it anymore by the management?
