Heineken Jammin' Festival Cancelled

on June 17, 2007 @ 15:51

From BBC.co.uk comes news that Maidens performans in Venice this weekend is now cancelled following a freak storm on Friday:
A music festival in Venice where Pearl Jam were due to headline has been scrapped after 20 people were injured when a storm hit the site.

Friday's freak storm brought down metal towers, giant speakers and lights at the Heineken Jammin' Festival, as well as trees in the surrounding park.

A number of vehicles were overturned by the strong winds.

Aerosmith, Iron Maiden and the Smashing Pumpkins were all due to play at the three-day event.

The festival, which attracted 20,000 music fans, was called off four hours before Pearl Jam were due to arrive at the event.

In a statement, the band said: "We're told that there are no critical injuries and for that we are grateful. Our hearts and thoughts are with all of you in Venice."

In 2000, nine fans were crushed to death in a crowd surge as Pearl Jam played at Denmark's Roskilde outdoor festival.

Following the tragedy, the band called for a thorough investigation, saying it could not be written off as a "freak accident".
